West Ham give Jarrod Bowen injury update as Michail Antonio decision made for Burnley clash

Jarrod Bowen picked up an injury on England duty and David Moyes has given an update on the West Ham forward ahead of the Premier League fixture vs Burnley at Turf Moor

David Moyes has provided an update on Jarrod Bowen’s injury situation ahead of West Ham United’s clash against Burnley on Saturday.

Bowen picked up an injury in training with England whilst on international duty, which came after Friday’s clash against Malta where he was an unused substitute. It meant that Bowen opted not to travel to North Macedonia to take part in the 1-1 draw in Skopje.

The Hammers take on bottom of the table Burnley on Saturday before embarking on a capital-centric run against the likes of Fulham, Crystal Palace and Tottenham before Christmas week. Though Moyes has admitted that Bowen’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared – and he could even play a part at Turf Moor.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the match, Moyes said on Friday: “We hope Jarrod will be available for Burnley, but we will make a decision on that tomorrow.”

Elsewhere, Michail Antonio was feared to be out for the rest of the season after he picked up an injury while away with Jamaica. However, it’s better news than first anticipated but the forward will miss out against Burnley. Moyes said: “Michail has got a small injury, it’s not serious. It will probably keep him out for a couple weeks.”

Moyes added: “It is a bit like a doctor’s surgery at the moment. It’s been difficult for a lot of the international boys because they’ve had late returns. But we think Nayef Aguerd will be okay too.

“Injuries are absolutely your worst fear as a manager, coming out of an international break. We’ve had a great record when it comes to injuries at this club this season. We’ve had almost a full squad in every game and now we’ve got players injured from international duty, and that’s a blow for us.

“If it’s on our watch and it happens in training or in our games, then it’s part and parcel. But when they’re away with the international team then it’s more galling when players come back injured.

“That being said, I want to have international players because that tells me I’ve got one of the best players from whatever country it is. I want my players to be playing for their countries. I’d like more, if possible, to be selected. The downside of that is that they may come back with injuries.”
