Lions Sign Former Steelers DT Tyson Alualu

The former Pittsburgh Steelers starter finds a new home in the NFL.

PITTSBURGH — The Detroit Lions are signing 13-year veteran and former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Tyson Alualu, according to his agent, Kenny Zuckerman.

Alualu, 36, spent the last six seasons with the Steelers, starting 26 of his 81 games and recording 158 tackles and 7.5 sacks for Pittsburgh. He returned from a fractured ankle last season to record 13 tackles in 17 games.

Alualu has expressed his interest in returning to a team throughout the season but has not landed with anyone prior to signing with Detroit. He’ll now join fellow Steelers teammates Cam Sutton and Isaiah Buggs on the Lions’ defense.

Alualu brings 191 games, including 113 starts, of experience to the Lions, with 416 tackles, 25 sacks, 46 tackles for loss and 15 pass deflections. He’ll look to finish his career with a playoff push on a Detroit team that currently holds a postseason spot as the leaders of the NFC North.
