With the New York Giants expected to place quarterback Daniel Jones (torn ACL) on injured reserve (joining Tyrod Taylor, who is on IR with a rib injury) and roll with Tommy DeVito as their starter the rest of the way, the team is looking to add another quarterback to join DeVito and Matt Barkley, the latter of whom is on the practice squad.
ESPN reports that the Giants have signed quarterback Jacob Eason, who worked out for the team in the off-season but didn’t get a contract and who worked out again Tuesday for the team.
Eason was initially drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Washington. He began his college career at Georgia, where he spent the first two seasons of his three-year career, before transferring to Washington after the 2017 season.
In his three-year college career, EAson completed 468 out of 782 passes (59.8 percent) for 5,590 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.
The 6-foot-6, 231-pound Eason has appeared in just two NFL games, one for the Colts in 2021 and one for the Panthers in 2022. He is five of ten for 84 yards and two interceptions in his two pro outings.
Head coach Brian Daboll didn’t sound confident of getting Taylor, who has three more weeks to go before his minimum four-week stint on IR is met, back from a rib injury. He spoke of continuing to develop DeVito, who in two games played is 17 of 27 for 174 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions this season in relief of Taylor (vs. the Jets) and Jones (vs. the Raiders).
Hall played his college ball at Louisville and Georgia Tech. He signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent after this past spring’s draft. Hall was most recently with the Cardinals practice squad.
