Manchester United youngster set to sign new contract after impressing Erik ten Hag

Joe Hugill is expected to sign a new Manchester United contract after impressing manager Erik ten Hag.

Striker Hugill, 20, is yet to make his United debut but he was an 11th-hour inclusion in the matchday squad for the win against Everton in November.

Hugill was back home in the north-east for a weekend off when he was summoned down and he rendezvoused with his teammates at Goodison Park.

Ten Hag also named Hugill on the bench in the Champions League games against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.

United are considering a loan move for Hugill in the January transfer window and could then assess his position in the squad in the summer.

Rasmus Hojlund is currently the only available senior striker to Ten Hag as Anthony Martial has been unwell for nearly three weeks and missed the last four matches.

The former Sunderland academy striker has trained regularly with the United first team this season and Hugill has also scored seven goals in nine starts for the Under-23s.

United signed Hugill in summer 2020 in a £300,000 deal amid competition from Arsenal and Tottenham.
