Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt updates transfer progress

IAN Evatt says Wanderers are making “steady progression” in their efforts to bring in a new signing.

The Bolton boss has already indicated that the Whites will not be making wholesale changes to their squad this month, with a maximum two new arrivals pencilled in.

Links with Blackburn Rovers striker Niall Ennis persist, with the former Plymouth Argyle striker absent from his club’s squad in the game against West Brom at the weekend and reportedly available for loan.

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup third round replay against Luton Town, Evatt felt confident Wanderers were making ground on a deal.

“Some more steady progression is more what I would say,” he said. “We are getting there slowly, but as I have said all along, we are going to be not so busy.

“We know what we want to do and have identified what we want to do. We are working very hard to make that happen.”

Luton have lost just one of their last five games in league and cup, and Evatt was present at their previous game against Burnley last Friday.

Wanderers are looking to secure a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time in five years – and have another Premier League opponent in either Crystal Palace or Everton awaiting them.

“We are not even thinking about that, to be honest,” Evatt said. “We have got a Premier League team to overcome in the first instance and they are in very good form, playing very well with a lot of consistency.

“They are a difficult team to play against but as I said before, we have very few secrets from each other.

“We know pretty much how they are going to play and they know pretty much how we are going to play. It is whoever executes that performance on the night who will go through.

“Ours is a huge task and challenge, but one we are ready for.”

Wanderers have no new injury problems but could welcome back wing-back Randell Williams, who was left out of the squad for the Cheltenham game on Saturday because of a tight hamstring.
