On January 28, the newspaper said on page 59 of its print edition that the 28-year-old’s loan signing will have a “huge impact” on the Mexican international’s position at the London Stadium.

The report also stated that the England international will start ahead of the 26-year-old for the Hammers, as the manager has grown “frustrated” with the player’s on-field behavior after 11 yellow cards this season.

Since it would undoubtedly lower morale, this doesn’t seem like something a management would do immediately after signing a new player.

Alvarez has been outstanding since leaving Ajax, so it’s unlikely that he’ll land on the bench right away, and Phillips will need to rehabilitate.

The Mexican has received a good number of cards this season, but West Ham supporters like that he never backs down from a challenge.

Moyes could certainly play the two together, but if Phillips pushes his way into the starting eleven, it will be intriguing to watch who gets moved aside.

The fact that we have added another midfield player is crucial since, in the absence of one of the first three possibilities, the squad has been a little weak.

In other West Ham news, Alan Brazil lost it live on radio over an issue involving the Hammers.
