Jason Kelce, a center for the Philadelphia Eagles, may yet have football left in him.

Riding shotgun while younger brother Travis Kelce makes another Super Bowl push with the Kansas City Chiefs, the 13-year veteran has been quite visible of late. Although his fandom misadventures appeared to be the pinnacle of his retirement age, his remarks following Sunday’s AFC Championship game suggest that he may not actually retire in 2024.

In an interview with Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Kelce described the Eagles’ season’s conclusion as “disappointing” but then seemed certain he would play again the following season.

“I really look forward to trying to prove people wrong, especially with some of the recent hires and Nick Sirianni,” said Kelce. Additionally, a lot of things regarding the Philadelphia Eagles are uncertain. However, I believe that as a player, you constantly eagerly anticipate engaging in combat with your teammates.”

After the Eagles’ disastrous late-season performance, which resulted in a humiliating 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs in the wild-card round, Kelce displayed an emotional response that suggested his illustrious and probably Hall of Fame career might be coming to an end. Later on, Kelce refuted rumors that he had informed his teammates that he was retiring, claiming that he had purposefully delayed making a decision due to the emotional nature of the option.

After telling Reiner that he was still unsure about hanging up his cleats for good, Kelce promised to stick with the Eagles organization no matter what.

“I don’t want to ever feel like I’m on the outside looking in on these achievements and these accolades and these opportunities tat largely represent entire cities and fan bases and organizations,” said Kelce. “It’s too good a feeling to pass up.”

As a six-time All-Pro, seven-time Pro Bowler, and recipient of a Super Bowl ring, Kelce has accomplished everything there is to prove in the football world. Nevertheless, he sounds more like a player who understands that the window is closing despite the Eagles’ season-ending setbacks than one whose career is in the rearview mirror.
