After a significant release, NRL giants plan to sign Super League talent.

Ahead of the 2024 season and his transfer to the St George Illawarra Dragons, the Canterbury Bulldogs have released Raymond Faitala-Mariner, who was connected to the Super League.

The three May brothers—Taylan May from the Penrith Panthers, Terrell May from the Sydney Roosters, and Tyrone May from Hull KR in Super League—are targets for the Bulldogs, who are in the process of rebuilding.

They have made some significant additions, and now that they have the salary cap flexibility to look for a replacement, they may be ready to make another.

Following Faitala-Mariner’s release, the Bulldogs released the following press release:

NRL 2023: Canterbury Bulldogs, Raymond Faitala-Mariner blindsided by clean-out, club captain, contracts, player movement

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have released Raymond Faitala-Mariner from his contract with immediate effect.

“The Club and Faitala-Mariner have reached an agreement, allowing Faitala-Mariner to be released to pursue a chance at another NRL Club.

Both on and off the field, Faitala-Mariner has benefited the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs would like to thank him for his dedication and hard work during his tenure at Belmore. He has run out for the Club 102 times.

“The Club sends its best wishes for the future to him and his family.”

As a result, Canterbury Bulldogs have additional salary cap room and can now sign a replacement.

Prior to the 2024 season, they attempted to acquire Siua Tauekiaho from the Catalan Dragons, but the deal fell through because it was thought to be all but certain.

He was scheduled to sign a two-year contract with the Bulldogs, but both their salary constraint predicament and the Dragons’ refusal to release him until a suitable transfer for the Tongan international was arranged caused delays.

After a failed medical, the interest was terminated, but the Bulldogs want to explore their alternatives for the 2024 and 2025 seasons now that they have salary cap room.
