What position will Roger Tuivasa-Sheck play in 2024? NRL news, updates for returning New Zealand Warriors star
In 2024, cross-code sensation Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will return to the New Zealand Warriors on a multi-year contract.
After dominating the 13-man code with both the Roosters and the Warriors, including a premiership win and the Dally M Medal, the fleet-footed fullback switched to rugby union in an attempt to become a dual international.
While his desire of joining the All Blacks was realized with three appearances in the renowned jumper, his tenure in the sport was mixed at best, with his NRL form failing to convert to Super Rugby.
What position will Roger Tuivasa-Sheck play for the Warriors?
There has been no confirmation of Tuivasa-Sheck’s position for next year, but the general consensus is that he will play in the centres, allowing Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad to retain the No.1 shirt.
The 30-year-old made his NRL debut with the Roosters as a winger, appearing 66 times before primarily playing fullback for the remainder of his career.
Despite the fact that he is expected to play center, Tuivasa-Sheck has never played the position in first grade and will have to learn the intricacies of defensive combinations and one-on-one defense.
Tuivasa-Sheck previously captained the Warriors during his six-season tenure, CEO Cameron George reiterated on SEN Radio that he will not be thrust back into a leadership role.
“He was clear to us during the course of deciding that he wanted to come back that he didn’t want to be a nuisance or a distraction, coming in as the former captain,” he said.
“He’s been very deliberate in making sure that he’s a part of the squad, not a leader of the squad.
“He’s been great for our young kids; he started day one with them. Naturally, his standards have been imposed on all the kids which has been an amazing experience for them.

“We’re very excited to have him back.”
Tuivasa-Sheck has returned to training in recent weeks with the Warriors and will become an integral part of the squad in the coming years, with his contract running through until the end of 2026.
