An NBA veteran responds to the idea of trading LeBron James to the Warriors
The Golden State Warriors’ proposed deal for LeBron James was rejected by the Los Angeles Lakers.
Prior to the deadline, the Golden State Warriors reportedly reached out to the Los Angeles Lakers over a possible trade including LeBron James. However, neither James nor the Lakers expressed interest in the arrangement, according to reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne.
“In the end, the answer was returned resoundingly on the eve of the trade deadline: Paul told Lacob and Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr., that James had no interest in a trade and wanted to remain a Laker, sources said,” according to ESPN. “When Dunleavy reached out to Lakers GM Rob Pelinka in those pretrade deadline hours, Dunleavy had been told the same: The Lakers wanted to keep James, sources said.”
Gilbert Arenas, a guard for the Memphis Grizzlies and a former NBA player, responded to this news on a recent episode of Gil’s Arena by stating, “I’m pretty sure they’re not gonna say who they were gonna trade because it didn’t happen and you don’t want to let all those players over there know that we almost got ya’ll the f–k up out of here.”
Despite having James and Steph Curry, Arenas said he doesn’t think Golden State would have been regarded as a super-team because of the package they would have had to put out.
“What kind of a team do I really have if I get traded to the Golden State Warriors and Kuminga, Klay, and Wiggins are gone? Me, Steph Curry, and Draymond Green alone? We’re not
Although this was an outrageous story, it appears that James joining the Warriors was never a real possibility.
