Roy Hodgson on the brink as Crystal Palace finally identify replacement ahead of Everton Premier League game
Former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner is the most likely candidate to take over in south London, and Palace have already made a formal approach to employ the Austrian as Roy Hodgson’s replacement.
The Eagles threw away a lead to lose 3-1 at Chelsea on Monday night, dropping to 15th in the league rankings, five points ahead of Everton. These points might be reduced to two if they lose to Everton on Monday night. The momentum is against the former Liverpool manager, and Palace chairman Steve Parish will make a decision in the coming days.
The Eagles had always planned to replace 76-year-old Hodgson in the summer, but there are concerns that he is sleepwalking toward relegation.
There was an attempt to hire former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper, but LondonWorld has learned that Cooper would only be interested in the post in the summer, making Glasner an appealing choice for the Eagles right away.
It remains to be seen whether Hodgson will be given the opportunity to take command at Goodison. If he does, he will most likely be missing the vital trio of Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, and Marc Guehi, all of whom are still injured and contribute significantly to Palace’s success.
Hodgson’s 200th game in charge of the south Londoners in all competitions came on Monday night, as they were defeated 3-1 at home by Chelsea. Last season, he was summoned from retirement to take over for Patrick Vieira. Following a period in which he guided the squad to a mid-table position, this season has been an unmitigated struggle, with the team fighting for form and confidence.
