Three individuals were reportedly killed after someone pulled out a gun and started firing during a pool party dispute over a lady in an Alabama apartment complex near Auburn University.
The Auburn Police Department has not identified any of the victims or their conditions, but according to a family member and tweets from alumni and local reporters, two football players — Ladarious Phillips and Ed Christian—were shot and killed, while another player, Eric Mack, remains hospitalized.
Phillips’ mother, Jemecia Phillips, told ABC News that her son died last night but that she had no idea what happened at the party that caused his death.
Phillips, a 20-year-old fullback, intended to transfer to Jackson State University, according to Jemecia, who expressed her pride in him.
“He was always helpful,” she explained.
WTVM in Birmingham says that three persons were killed and two more were injured in the incident.
Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson told the Opelika-Auburn News that officers responded to the complex for multiple gunshot injuries, but declined to further. According to the magazine, details on the victims will be released by the coroner rather than a hospital spokeswoman.
ABC News contacted the coroner, who was unavailable for comment.
University Heights Apartments was under lockdown from 10:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday until 1:20 a.m. today, according to ABC affiliate WBMA-TV in Birmingham.
No one answered when ABC News phoned Vines’ phone number, but he told the Associated Press that losing his friend was like losing a lung.
“I don’t know how I’m going to survive this,” he told me.
