Daniel Hudson ‘Only Wanted to Come Back’ to Dodgers in Free Agency
Daniel Hudson had an unfortunate 2023 season. Hudson missed the first part of the season while recovering from a torn ACL, but returned in a triumphant manner.
However, it was short-lived.
Just three games into his return, Hudson suffered an MCL injury, which ultimately ended his season. In those short three games, he didn’t allow a run in three innings, striking out five, and picking up a save in the process.
It was a great story, quickly followed by an unfortunate incident. Fate had other ideas for Hudson, and there was thought he could retire.
But Hudson didn’t leave the baseball world, signing a minor-league deal with the Dodgers. He said during Spring Training that Los Angeles was the only team he considered joining this year.
Los Angeles landing Hudson on a minor-league deal could end up being a steal if he can perform. He is set to earn $2 million if he makes the team and possibly another $2 million in performance bonuses.
When he last pitched more than a few games, Hudson was one of the more trusted members of the Dodgers bullpen. In 25 games in 2022, he posted an ERA of 2.22 and a WHIP of 0.90.
Now, all Hudson wants to do is earn his spot on the team and help them win another World Series.
Bringing Hudson back is a low-risk, potentially high-reward move for Los Angeles. He provides extra depth in a solid bullpen and brings more veteran experience to the table.
On Friday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided a positive update on Hudson, which you can read about by clicking here.
