Former Ravens Star Already Trying to Recruit Marlon Humphrey

With Marlon Humphrey’s future with the Baltimore Ravens uncertain, a former teammate has already begun the recruiting process. Current New England Patriot Matthew Judon made a brief sales pitch on X in response to a Ravens fan page commemorating a USA TODAY news about Humphrey’s release, which netted the organization roughly $12 million in salary space. “I like this move,” Judon announced. “I think (on) the Patriots 44 is open.”
Humphrey’s digits are still available in Foxborough, having last been worn by reserve receiver/specialist Raleigh Webb in 2022. Ironically, Webb went on to play two games for the Ravens that season. Judon and Humphrey rose to prominence in the NFL as Ravens teammates, joining in 2016 and 2017, respectively. In four years of collaboration, Baltimore ranked no worse than 12th in total defense, including a league-leading effort in 2018. Judon’s success earned him a four-year, $56 million contract with the Patriots at the start of the new decade, and he has been the team’s standout player in the post-Tom Brady era.
Recruiting big free agents to the Patriots, who are coming off their worst season in decades, is nothing new for Judon, who has previously posted similar-themed postings mentioning names such as Odell Beckham Jr., who later signed with the Ravens. Going after Humphrey, on the other hand, is personal in the most positive sense, especially given their previous collaboration.
“He’s meant a lot to this defense,” Humphrey said about Judon in 2021, according to Aaron Kasinitz of PennLive.com. “Anytime you see a play, you’re always going to see some guy running full speed, giving his all with a lot of hustle.” “I believe he has contributed significantly to the defense. (I believe he is one of our top commanders). You think individuals like him come around frequently, but I don’t believe they do.”
Humphrey, 27, agreed to a five-year, $97 million extension of his rookie contract in 2020. While he has clearly lived up to his first-round billing, a foot injury limited him to just 10 games during the most recent regular season. Humphrey may not be the only Raven facing financial hardship; Ronnie Stanley ($15 million), Tyus Bowser, Morgan Moses (both $5.5 million), Patrick Mekari ($4.3 million), and Patrick Ricard ($4 million) would also see considerable savings.
