The Miami Hurricanes still have some areas of need that they hope to address through the Transfer Portal.

With Nick Saban departing, Alabama players may soon become available. We’re still waiting to see how the dust settles there. The shift in leadership gives Crimson Tide players a new 30-day window to access the site. We’ll be keeping an eye on Miami’s heavily recruited prospects, such as running back Kevin Riley and defensive back Zay Mincey.

Repeatedly rejected by college coaches, this former Connecticut high school football player went from walk-on to captain with the Miami Hurricanes – Hartford Courant

According to my understanding, the Hurricanes remain interested in former Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa if he can secure an NCAA waiver to play another season. He submitted his request last Thursday, and there is no set schedule or date for their decision. If approved, he might serve as an experienced one-year starter until one of Miami’s young quarterbacks is ready to take over in 2025.
In my Locked On Canes podcast, we discussed Miami’s portal needs, quarterback room, and 2025 recruiting notes. Colleague Brian Smith joined me:

Miami is reportedly interested in Liberty wide receiver CJ Daniels.
The Hurricanes may use one or two more seasoned defensive backs. The existing possibilities in the site are limited. Waiting for the spring window to open may be necessary. Miami did sign Vanderbilt safety Savion Riley in December.

Brian and I also reviewed an excellent list of confirmed and rumored attendees for Miami’s Junior Day on January 27th. Zayden Walker, Jadon Perlotte (UGA commit), TJ Alford, and Elijah Melendez (Miami commit) are among the top linebackers in the class of 2025.
Derek Nicholson, Miami linebackers coach, continues to perform an outstanding job in recruiting. He continues to put Miami in the mix for top players.
