The Cleveland Browns will look for an edge rusher to replace Za’Darius Smith if he leaves in free agency, and the team’s defense in 2023 will make Northeast Ohio a more appealing destination for free agents than in previous offseasons.
On Monday, March 4, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report ranked Cleveland as the second-best choice for Minnesota Vikings pass rusher Danielle Hunter, who will become an unrestricted free agency if he does not sign an agreement with the team before then.

Cleveland Browns Have Been Cursed By Slow Starts On The Road

Hunter’s versatility as a Pro Bowl linebacker and defensive end is noteworthy. Hunter, who can play in almost any defense, should seek out a supporting cast that can help him maximize his performance.
The Cleveland Browns had the league’s best defense in terms of yards allowed last season. They also employ Myles Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Hunter could take over as Garrett’s primary backup in Cleveland, possibly replacing former Viking Za’Darius Smith, who is also about to become free agent.

Other teams interested in Hunter, and thus among Knox’s most likely landing locations, include the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears.
