Berrios has been outstanding in his first three starts of the season, pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the Blue Jays. He aims to increase his intensity on the mound and not worry too much about results. Berrios said he has been preparing himself day-by-day, focusing on being respectful and being a bad dog. He still enjoys the game and respects his teammates, but he wants to give his hundred percent pitch by pitch.

Berrios has a 1-0 record in one career start against the Rockies, a game he threw in 2017. Freeland will start against Toronto for the first time in his career. Freeland’s fourth start of the season, his third on the road, was a gut punch in the Rockies’ 7-5 home win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He had allowed 17 runs in his first two starts of the season. Freeland expressed disappointment in losing his confidence in his first two starts.

Rockies manager Bud Black praised Kyle Kyle’s hard work and good pitches in a game against the Rockies. Yariel Rodriguez made his major league debut, allowing one run and striking out six in 3 2/3 innings. Bowden Francis, originally scheduled to start, got the win after allowing two runs in 2 1/3 innings. Toronto manager John Schneider said the game was a good blueprint, but it’s not guaranteed that this is the way the team will play every time.
