Buffalo Bills sign WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to one-year, $4.5 million deal, per reports.

Following a visit on Monday night and Tuesday morning, the Buffalo Bills didn’t let former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling leave the building. In breaking news this morning, the Bills have signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal worth up to $4.5 million, including a $1.125 million signing bonus, per multiple reports.

This move comes nearly three weeks after the 2024 NFL Draft, when Buffalo drafted wide receiver Keon Coleman with the first pick in the second round. Bringing in “MVS” after drafting Coleman further solidifies a primary pass-catching unit that also includes wide receivers Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir and tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox for quarterback Josh Allen to work with this upcoming season.

Valdes-Scantling has been on the radar of man Bills fans lately, particularly Bruce Nolan (@BruceExclusive on X), who had just mentioned him in a “top remaining free agents” article, highlighting his veteran presence and ability to stretch the field outside.

The 29-year-old NC State and USF product spent the first four seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers after being selected in the fifth round of the 2018 draft. His statistics don’t necessarily wow the average fan, but his ability to stretch the field is legitimate and it’s evident in his 17.0 yards per reception career mark thus far. He nearly eclipsed the 700 yardage mark in 2022 with Kansas City to go along with 42 receptions and two touchdowns — but he certainly had a down year in 2023 (21-315-1), which will hopefully motivate him to help contribute more meaningfully in Buffalo.

He isn’t going to come in and randomly break out at 29 years old but he has caught some tough passes against the Bills in previous seasons. It can’t hurt to give Allen a whole different look on offense with multiple receivers able to stretch the field at any point.
