What was so specially bad about the Bills’ fake punt?
I can live without understanding why Hamlin was especially a bad choice, but I’m really trying to understand what is special about this play. It looks to me like every other play in football except he went a bad way and got stopped immediately.
Wikipedia says a fake punt is using a punt formation of your lineup and then not punting, surprising your opponent as they go long to (I assume?) catch the punted ball.
Why is this a bad idea, and why is it a worse idea on a fourth down? Like why was this a bad play beyond Hamlin trying to bust through the herd of opponents and failing?
