Fabrizio Romano reveals Tottenham player’s transfer is now ‘advancing’
Genoa is reportedly interested in recruiting Spence on a permanent basis from Spurs following his loan experience at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in the second half of the season.
Djed Spence spent the second half of last season at Genoa. On June 4, Calciomercato reported that the Serie A club’s CEO, Andres Blazquez, flew to London to reach an agreement with Spurs for the right back.
According to the newspaper, Genoa does not want to use the €10 million (£8.5 million) option to buy the 23-year-old in their loan arrangement with Spurs.
Instead, the Italian club is understood to be looking for a discount, with Blazquez optimistic that he will be able to negotiate a deal given his close relationship with Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board.
Talks between Genoa and Tottenham are advancing.
Romano has now resorted to social media platform X to claim that Genoa is making progress in their bid to get the Spurs defender on a permanent basis.
The journalist reported that talks between the Premier League team and the Serie A club over Spence are now heating up.
He noted that all parties are eager to achieve an agreement, and that the deal might be completed by the end of this month.
Spence played 16 games for Genoa in Serie A during the second half of the season (transfermarkt).
Based on recent sources, Tottenham does not appear to have considered using Spence as part of a part-exchange agreement to sign Albert Gudmundsson.
That seems Spurs have moved on from their pursuit of the Genoa forward and are focusing on other targets.
