Ally McCoist blasts Neal Maupay after what Everton flop did to Tottenham ace James Maddison

McCoist [7 June, 08:53] chastised Maupay on air alongside Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil for what appeared to be an inflammatory post in response to Maddison’s exclusion from England’s final 26-man Euros team.

The contentious figure, who has spent the season on loan at previous club Brentford, posted on X on Wednesday afternoon, just after it was announced that Maddison had left the Three Lions camp.

McCoist stated, “He’s grinning from ear to ear in front of a dartboard with three darts.” That is poor, man.

“You must wait a certain amount of time, like 24 hours, before nailing someone.

“He’s definitely taking the mickey, there.”

The needle between Maupay and Maddison, both 27, appeared to originate only a few months prior, when the Everton loanee scored for Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January and mocked the midfielder’s “darts” celebration, which was then responded to by Spurs’ Richarlison later that game.

After Spurs won 3-2, Maddison and Maupay resumed their feud on social media.

To be fair to Maddison, Maupay was scarcely in contention for the France squad – the two nations are presently the bookies’ favourites to win Euro 2024, followed by hosts Germany.

Fans of Maupay’s clubs and the larger English game will be well aware of his humorous personality, which some find endearingly different from the norm of “robotic” footballers; others regard the striker as unprofessional and a nuisance.

For the neutral, it’s a humorous and enjoyable little personal conflict that could reoccur next season.
