Aston Villa want to sign £42m Tottenham player with Unai Emery a ‘big fan’

Unai Emery is preparing for a Champions League season following a successful 2023/24 season. The Villans proved they can compete with the big boys, but there is still room for development.

Aston Villa, like Tottenham, is likely to be active in the summer transfer window, and the two clubs may engage in transfer talks shortly.

Aston Villa wants to recruit Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham.
Tottenham signed Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis during the summer of 2019.

The Argentina international initially joined Spurs on loan, but the move was made permanent the following year, costing Tottenham £42 million (Football London).

Lo Celso is a fantastic talent on his day. He’s good on the ball, has great vision, and has demonstrated that he can make a significant impact in the last third.

However, the 28-year-old has just not been able to produce the goods on a consistent basis at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during his time there.

Lo Celso, before the start of the 2023/24 season, spent 18 months on loan at Villarreal, where he worked with Emery and played a key part under him.

Now, The Sun reveals that Aston Villa want to sign Lo Celso this summer, with their manager said to be a ‘big fan’ of the Tottenham midfielder.

Spurs are expected to sell the Argentina international this summer after he enters the final year of his contract. He played less than 600 minutes of football under Ange Postecoglou last season.

Lo Celso has already rejected one offer

It’s never ideal to allow your players to enter the final year of their contracts, but that’s the situation Tottenham are in right now with Lo Celso.

The former PSG man is definitely not the first-choice at Spurs, and even though he has shown flashes of his brilliance, it’s safe to assume that his future lies elsewhere.

Tottenham are open to selling Lo Celso this summer and they have even received an offer from Saudi Arabia.

However, Lo Celso has ruled out a move to the Middle East, and his preference is said to be a return to Spanish side Real Betis in the coming months.

It will be interesting to see if Emery can change his mind with an offer to join Aston Villa this summer.
