Jannik Sinner reveals the secret to his shock Australian Open semi-final win over Novak Djokovic, which inflicted a first defeat at the tournament in SIX YEARS on the 10-time champion
Jannik Sinner inflicted a first defeat in six years at the Australian Open on Novak Djokovic and ended the 10-time champion’s unbeaten semi-final record at the tournament.
The Italian outplayed the world No.1, breaking his serve twice in each of the first two sets before going on to claim a 6-1 6-2 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 victory that booked a place in his first Grand Slam final.
Sinner, who put an end to Djokovic’s 33-match winning run at Melbourne Park, shed light on how he toppled the imperious Serbian, highlighting the importance of his defensive display.
‘I don’t know – ask him!’ Sinner joked post-match when about why he has been able to trouble the 36-year-old in recent meetings.
‘I think we play really similar and you have to first of all return as many times as possible. He is also an incredible server.’
