“Fans might be worried”- PL manager comments on £80m Chelsea target’s future
Brentford Ivan Toney is exploring new challenges and could leave the club with many Premier League teams interested including Chelsea
Brentford manager Thomas Frank acknowledged fans’ fear of Ivan Toney leaving the club after the striker said in his latest interview he wants new challenges, and many Premier League clubs are already weighing a move, including Chelsea.
Toney recently appointed his new agents, with the England international currently serving an eight-match ban after breaching the FA’s betting regulations and will return to action next year in January.
The likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal are interested in acquiring the services of the 27-year-old, and the Bees have slapped an £80 million price tag on the striker but remain reluctant to sell him.
However, manager Frank has said Toney’s switching his agent will certainly raise speculation, (h/t Express) as he said:
“Yes, I can understand fans might be worried, but they are probably worried about a lot of our players. There are maybe six clubs or less that are not selling clubs. And we are a selling club, at the right price. And in this market, that is a very big price.”
“And it is natural to have ambitions to win silverware and have other teams that you either supported as a boy or admire. He has attracted attention for quite a while.”
Toney has heavily implied in the aforementioned interview that he wants to leave Brentford and try his luck at a new club. He is a gifted striker with Premier League experience, and many clubs would want to have such a quality striker on board.
Chelsea already have Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja, but we might use Toney to improve our centre-forward line if necessary. The Senegal international has done quite well, and got off the mark in our 3-0 win against Luton Town yesterday.

But Jackson is just 22 and still getting to grips with a new league. Moreover, with Broja’s injury issues, we can use a proper No. 9 who knows where the net is. Toney (27) has 32 goals in 68 Premier League games, and that just shows his quality considering he has mustered those numbers not playing at a ‘big six’ club.
WHAT HAPPENED? Chelsea registered a comfortable 3-0 victory over Luton at Stamford Bridge on Friday thanks to a brace from Raheem Sterling and a third by Nicolas Jackson. However, the margin could have been bigger if Chilwell was a bit more clinical in front of goal.
The left-back darted into the box with three defenders around him. Yet he did have a clear sight at goal with only keeper Thomas Kaminski to beat. However, Chilwell chose square the ball to Sterling, who was in a worse position.
He immediately had his hands in his head realising what he had done as his pass was cleared for a corner and Jamie Carragher blasted the defender for his “awful” mistake.
I can’t believe what I’ve just seen,’ the Liverpool legend said on Sky Sports.
“We had just been talking about Ben Chilwell’s role in an attacking sense and it looked like he was going to make me eat my words. But that was just bizarre! He drives through the middle and he is in the centre of the goal, unmarked. Unbelievable! It’s awful. It really is. Such poor decision making.
“Maybe he was reluctant to use his right foot, or lost his bearings a little? Just trying to find excuses as to why he wouldn’t shoot there. The goal was right in front of him. If Luton get back into the game, that moment will certainly be looked at,” he said.
