Sky Sports apologizes for making ‘insensitive’ comments during Aston Villa’s match versus Everton.
The latest Aston Villa news comes after commentators were admonished for making ‘insensitive’ comments after Villa’s 4-0 victory over Everton.
Sky Sports has apologized for comments made by pundits Bill Leslie and Andy Hinchcliffe during Aston Villa’s victory over Everton.
Everton players and staff wore black armbands to honor Michael Jones, an Everton fan who died last week while building on the club’s new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium. Everton manager Sean Dyche was among those who wore the armband.
During the first half, commentators Leslie and Hinchcliffe joked on the touchline that Dyche “looked like a croupier” since he wore the armband over a white shirt. On social media, those words sparked uproar, with many labeling them “tasteless.”
Sky has issued an apology, calling the statements “insensitive” and “regrettable.” Throughout the game, spectators at Villa Park paid tribute to the fans watching on television.
The Liverpool Echo acquired a Sky statement that stated that “comments made during the Aston Villa vs. Everton game were insensitive and regrettable.”
“We have spoken to everyone involved in the coverage, including both commentators, and reminded them of their responsibilities as well as the importance of caution and sensitivity.” We regret any offense or pain caused by these words.”
According to reports, the commentators privately expressed regret for their on-field remarks.
Villa defeated Everton 4-0, due to goals by John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey, and Jhon Duran. It was Villa’s fault.
