Real Madrid now want to sign 23-year-old Leeds player in shock deal

Real Madrid are interested in signing Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

That is according to Spanish outlet SPORT, who claim Meslier features on a list of goalkeeping targets Madrid could make a move for before the end of the window.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in the market for a new shot stopper this summer after the shock news that Thibaut Courtois will be out for several months.

Courtois picked up an extremely serious injury in training earlier this week, tearing his ACL and leaving Madrid on the lookout for a new goalkeeper.

Meslier is said to feature on a second list of players that includes ‘younger and economic profiles’, with the likes of David de Gea and Bono on the more proven set of targets.

Meslier has started the season as Leeds’ number one goalkeeper after falling out of favour towards the end of last season under Sam Allardyce.

Following relegation from the Premier League, Meslier has been widely tipped to leave Leeds this summer in order to hand him a fresh start.

However, Meslier has looked much better under Daniel Farke during pre-season and the opening match against Cardiff City, looking far more assured between the sticks.

Leeds, though, have already brought in Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow and so would be well covered if Meslier does move on.

At this stage, a move for Meslier by Madrid does seem unlikely but it is certainly one to keep an eye on.
