OCT 31 COMMANDERS DUMP DEFENSE The Washington Commanders have been busy during the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.

Just hours after the Washington Commanders traded edge rusher Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears for a second-round pick, they finalized their decision on edge rusher Chase Young.

The Commanders chose to trade Young before Tuesday’s trade deadline to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, per Commander Country.

It’s clear that, at 3-5, Washington doesn’t have a legitimate path to the playoffs, and the front office is acting accordingly. Both Sweat and Young looked to be headed to free agency, and looming extensions did not align with the timeline the Commanders had in mind.

OCT 31 HOUSTON-CARSON TO HOUSTON The Houston Texans are signing safety DeAndre Houston-Carson from the Ravens practice squad, reports indicated on Tuesday.

Houston-Carson played his college ball at William & Mary, and he was selected in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He has spent time with the Texans before joining the Ravens’ practice squad, and he will now be heading back to Houston for his second stint there in 2023.

OCT 27 SMITH ENDS FEUD WITH BRONCOS’ JEUDY Former Baltimore Ravens receiver Steve Smith took to the “Pat McAfee Show” on Friday to end his feud with fellow catcher and current Denver Bronco Jerry Jeudy.

Smith, a five-time Pro Bowler, apologized for calling out Jeudy while manning pregame coverage for Amazon Prime Video’s coverage of “Thursday Night Football” on Oct. 12, when Denver faced Kansas City, claiming the active receiver blew him off when he tried to apologize for an earlier jab on his podcast.

“I apologize for how I said it, what I said, and it didn’t sit well,” Smith declared. “That wasn’t my intent, but what’s done is done and I’m sorry. It makes me more aware that I gotta use different words and not make it come across like I’m jealous or envious of the current players, because I’m not.”

Smith, 44, played his final three seasons with the Ravens (2014-16), earning 2,534 yards and 14 touchdowns through the air in that span.

OCT 26 FAN FINDS UNUSUAL HAT IN RAVENS TEAM STORE To quote Indiana Jones … it belongs in a museum.

It was instead found in the Baltimore Ravens’ team store: a fan brandished his latest purchase, a $30 hat that bore the famous emblem of the Ravens over text that read “Steelers,” the name of Baltimore’s longest-standing NFL rivals. Naturally, the buyer, or at least their friend, sought retribution on X, showcasing the rare find to the official accounts of the Ravens, Steelers, cap maker New Era, and Barstool Sports, as well as those of Lamar Jackson and Rich Eisen.

The headwear hex is undoubtedly a mistake, as it’s unlikely that any fan from either Baltimore or Pittsburgh would be caught dead wearing it. Since the Ravens entered the league in 1996, their series with the Steelers has been one of the NFL’s most tightly-contested matchups and has, more often than not, altered the fate of the AFC North division.

Pittsburgh took the first half of the latest yearly couple by a 17-10 final on Oct. 8. The two teams will do battle in Baltimore during the final week of the regular season in January.

OCT 23 RAVENS ‘SPOKE TO’ NDAMUKONG SUH ABOUT NFL RETURN Ndamukong Suh appears to be plotting an NFL return and the Baltimore Ravens appear interested in hosting.

While partaking in Sky Sports’ NFL coverage on Sunday … shortly after the Ravens dismantled the Detroit Lions by a 38-6 final … Suh revealed that Baltimore management called him about a potential 14th NFL season.

“Last week it was the Ravens that spoke to me, so they seem to be interested and played great today,” Suh said. “You never know. We’ll see when we get back to the States, huddle up with the wife and family, get settled, and keep training.”

“Where’s the right fit? Where’s the right opportunity? Where can I go and add value? I don’t just want to sit there and watch other guys be successful,” Suh said. “Have options, that’s the key, and make decisions from there.”

Suh, 36, spent the latter half of last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, picking up 10 tackles and a sack and appearing in all three games of the team’s NFC title run.

OCT 19 INTERNATIONAL FLAGS You’ll see some changes to some NFL helmets around the league for Weeks 7 and 8. Hundreds of players will add flag decals to their helmets representing the countries of their heritage.

The league has announced more than 330 players have committed to participate, representing 72 nations, with Nigeria being the most-represented foreign country, with 80 players committing to wear the Nigerian flag.

OCT 17 RAVENS ADD SUPER BOWL CHAMP ANDREW ADAMS Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Baltimore Ravens are set to add safety Andrew Adams to their practice squad and a “quick elevation” could be in store considering the team’s injury situation: during their 24-16 win over Tennessee in London, the Ravens lost Marcus Williams to a hamstring issue.

Adams, 30, has built a lengthy NFL career since emerging as an undrafted free agent out of Connecticut in 2016. He earned a Super Bowl ring after the 2020 season with Tampa Bay and played 13 games (11 starts) with the aforementioned Tennessee Titans last season.

In a presumed corresponding move to make room for Adams, the Ravens released veteran running back Kenyan Drake from the practice squad, per the team’s official site.

OCT 15 CHEAP SHOT! Odell Beckham Jr. took offense to a Tennessee Titans cheap shot and kneed Jeffery Simmons in the groin area after a Zay Flowers catch … and the refs only catch the tail end of the conflict – so when Simmons responded by pushing Beckham down to the turf in London in this Week 6 tilt, it was the Ravens who get the benefit and the 15 yards and a first down after Simmons was penalized. OCT 13 LEWIS BACKS DOWN OHER CTE CLAIMS Michael Lewis, the author of the book that eventually became the film “The Blind Side,” retracted previous claims about the story’s subject, former Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Michael Oher. In a prior interview with Samanth Subramanian of The Guardian, Lewis hinted that Oher’s lawsuit against the Tuohy family concerning profits made from the 2009 film starring Sandra Bullock was a “change of behavior” brought about by head/brain injuries from football.

Lewis backed down from that claim in a subsequent discussion with Brett Martin of GQ.

“I got pushed and I said something in anger that I probably shouldn’t have said,” Lewis said in the latter interview. “I don’t know what’s going on. I just don’t know. It breaks my heart though.”

When commenting on the evolving Oher situation, Lewis, known to be a friend of the Tuohy family, has often spoken out in their defense, blaming other factors such as Hollywood accounting for the alleged financial discrepancies. In the GQ article, Lewis stated he could understand Oher’s frustration with the movie but not his anger toward the Tuohys.

I have a problem with him accusing people of stealing money from him when all they did was give him money,” Lewis said. “He’s really upended these people’s lives who really never did anything but mean him well and love him and take care of him and I just felt like they needed defending because nobody else was doing it.”

OCT 12 JON GRUDEN AN OPTION FOR PITTSBURGH STEELERS Jon Gruden’s second return to the NFL may be closer than ever, and if rumors come to fruition, the Baltimore Ravens could be facing him twice a year.

Pittsburgh-Post Gazette reporter Gerry Dulac tabbed Gruden as an option to become the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator next season, citing his relationship with head coach Mike Tomlin from their time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gruden was the Bucs’ head coach from 2002-2008, and Tomlin was the team’s defensive backs coach from 2001-2005.

If Pittsburgh were to be interested in Gruden, it likely wouldn’t be as cut and dry as hiring though he isn’t currently employed by an NFL team. Gruden is currently suing the NFL after he was forced to resign as the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach on Oct. 11, 2021, after numerous misogynistic and racist emails that he sent to former NFL exec Bruce Allen were leaked during an investigation into the Washington Commanders.

Pro Football Talk reported Gruden and the NFL along with commissioner Roger Goodell will appear in Nevada Supreme Court on Nov. 7.

The Steelers (3-2) offense has struggled under current offensive coordinator Matt Canada. They were 26th in points per game last season and currently 29th through five games.

While hiring Gruden as an offensivsive coordinator would likely stir controversy, it could be a headache worth having for Pittsburgh if he can improve the offense and develop second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett.

OCT 9 RAVENS TO SPEND WEEK IN LONDON London’s calling the Baltimore Ravens a little earlier this time around.

Following a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers, head coach John Harbaugh announced that the team will spend nearly all of this week in London as they prepare to do international battle against the Tennessee Titans next Sunday morning (9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network).

Harbaugh said that the plan is influenced not by the 17-10 loss to Pittsburgh but rather by a 44-7 shellacking suffered when the Ravens faced the Jacksonville Jaguars in The Big Smoke in 2017. To date, it’s one of the most lopsided games on the NFL’s international ledgers.

“It’s mostly driven by the fact that we didn’t do well, so we did the opposite,” Harbaugh said, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “There’s no data, and we looked for it, to say when you should go out there and what’s the ideal thing. I’ll say this kind of in jest, what’s the science on that? As often is the case, they really don’t know. That’s just the way it is.”

Sunday’s game will mark the final installment of a British tripleheader on the NFL slate, which featured two Jacksonville victories. All other participants, including the Titans, have departed for England on the Thursday before their respective games.

OCT 5 ROQUAN SMITH’S “NOT A RAVEN UNTIL…” Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith is looking for another rite of passage, as the defender apparently refuses to acknowledge his purple-and-gold privilege until he beats the hated Pittsburgh Steelers again.

“I’m not a Raven this year until I beat Pittsburgh,” Smith said, per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. “I take great pride being a Raven. I want to earn that right, as well.”

One of Smith’s first outings as a Raven was a 16-14 triumph over Pittsburgh in December, one that saw him earn a sack and an interception. The former Chicago Bear, however, apparently sees continued success against the Steelers as a prerequisite for building a continued legacy in Charm City. Sunday’s showdown against the Steelers (1 p.m. ET, CBS) will mark the first time the divisional rivals square off since Smith inked a five-year, $100 million contract extension that will keep him part of the rivalry for the foreseeable future.

OCT 2 HARBAUGH “HOPEFUL” FOR RETURN OF HUMPHREY Fresh off a standout defensive effort in Cleveland, the Baltimore Ravens might be getting one of their brightest birds back.

As a matchup with the reeling Pittsburgh Steelers looms on Sunday (1 p.m. ET, CBS), it’s possible Baltimore could get injured cornerback Marlon Humphrey back.

“(He’s) is within the range,” Harbaugh said. “There is no gold (standard) … I’ve said it many times. You can’t say a date. He’s in the range, so I’m hopeful he will get back this week. I was hopeful he’d get back last week, and if it’s not this week, it will probably be next week. He’s in the range right now, right in the area right now. So, we’ll see what happens.”

Baltimore (3-1) is looking to go 3-0 against divisional opposition after previously topping Cincinnati and Cleveland. Even with Humphrey out, the unit had a sterling day against the Browns, allowing only 166 yards in a 28-3 triumph.

SEPT 29 JUDGE ENDS MICHAEL OHER CONSERVATORSHIP It began with “The Blind Side.” It ends, or at least begins to, with “The Terminator.”

Shelby County (TN) Probate Court Judge Kathleen Gomes is ending the conservatorship the Tuohy family established for former Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Michael Oher in 2004. The conservatorship was the main sticking point in the lawsuit filed by Oher against the Tuohy family concerning profits from “The Blind Side” film released in 2009.

The Tuohy family has claimed that the conservatorship was an effort to keep NCAA concerns about boosters off their back when Oher sought to attend their alma mater of Mississippi. Judge Gomes, however, said that she had never seen such a conservatorship in her 43 years on the bench, especially one with an individual who was not disabled.

“I cannot believe it got done,” she said in a statement to the Associated Press.

Gomes made it clear that she is not dismissing the case as Oher’s other claims, such as the idea that the Tuohys profited off his name and their relationship with him, will continue to be deliberated.

SEPT 27 CLOWNEY HAS NO “BAD BLOOD” WITH BROWNS It’s probably for the best that Taylor Swift won’t be showing up to Sunday’s AFC North clash between the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

Ravens defender Jadeveon Clowney, perhaps unintentionally, used a song title from the lauded singer/songwriter to describe his feelings, or lack thereof, toward Baltimore’s annual visit to Cleveland. It’ll mark the first time that the Ravens face the Browns since Clowney played the last two seasons with an orange helmet.

“I got a lot of respect for a lot of those guys over there that I still consider friends,” Clowney said on Wednesday, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “If I had any bad blood, I don’t think I would have signed to go back there for two years in a row.”

Clowney spent two productive years in Cleveland, amassing 11 sacks in that span. His tenure, however, is perhaps best remembered for his exit, in which he accused the team of being more focused on getting star defender Myles Garrett into the Hall of Fame rather than winning games. As a result of his comments, Clowney was suspended for the final games of the Browns’ season in Pittsburgh.

SEPT 20 BROWNS SIGN HUNT Just days after the gruesome injury to running back Nick Chubb, former Browns back Kareem Hunt is returning to Cleveland.

Hunt signed a one-year deal worth up to $4 million to replace Chubb for the rest of the season.

The former Toledo star played for Cleveland from 2019 through 2022 after two seasons in Kansas City. While with the Browns previously, Hunt registered 442 carries for 1,874 yards and 16 touchdowns.

SEPT 19 NEW SIMPSON From the good feelings department: Ravens OL John Simpson missed the team plane to Cincinnati to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.

Simpson was able to catch a flight on Saturday to be with his team and started in the Ravens’ 27-24 win at Cincinnati, where he was presented with a game ball for the new John Lucas Simpson.

SEPT 18 CHUBB SUFFERS SERIOUS INJURY When the Baltimore Ravens face the Cleveland Browns in Week 4, they will be without star running Nick Chubb.

During the second quarter of the Browns’ “Monday Night Football” game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chubb was carted off the field after suffering a gruesome lower leg injury.

After the game, a 26-22 Browns loss, Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski acknowledged Chubb is done for the season.

“Obviously, Nick’s got a very significant knee injury,” Stefanski said. “You feel for the person. He’s a great football player as we know, but he’s an even better person. We will support him every step along the way.”

SEPT 17 OBJ ON DEION Deion Sanders, the former Ravens and Hall of Fame star, is college football’s featured attraction right now, and on Saturday he kept it all in the family with two of his sons starring in No. 18 Colorado’s rally to beat in-state rival Colorado State 43-35 in two OTs.

And present Ravens star Odell Beckham Jr. obviously took notice. How do we know this?

As OBJ gets warmed up for Week 2 against the Bengals, he’s wearing a T-shirt featuring Deion Sanders’ top player at CU, Travis Hunter … and just to make sure he’s got all his tributes in order, Beckham is also wearing Randy Moss cleats.

SEPTEMBER 12 WORLEY ACTIVE Baltimore announced that it has signed veteran defensive back Daryl Worley to the active roster, thus reinforcing their safety room after the pectoral injury to Marcus Williams. In a corresponding move, safety Duron Harmon has moved to the practice squad.

Worley played three defensive snaps and 20 plays on special teams in the Ravens’ 25-9 win over Houston on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium. He can play either safety or corner and appeared in eight games for Baltimore last season.

Williams’ injury may require surgery to repair, although that has yet to be decided. Per coach John Harbaugh, he “will be out for a while.”

Corner Tae Hayes was released from the practice squad to make room for Harmon, while Worley takes the roster spot of running back J.K. Dobbins, who was put on IR after his Achilles injury on Sunday.

SEPTEMBER 8 MILLIONAIRE JOE Ravens rival Joe Burrow is now the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL. After months of speculation, Burrow and the Bengals agreed to a five-year, $275 million extension that keeps him in Cincinnati for the next seven seasons.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the deal. The contract includes $219.01 million guaranteed. Burrow becomes the fourth star quarterback to sign a long-term extension this offseason.

SEPTEMBER 5 BRISTOL BUYS IN ON BALTIMORE A study from ESPN was downright bird-brained: a Tuesday report from the Worldwide Leader’s analytical department revealed the full results of one of 20,000 simulations of the upcoming NFL season. Example No. 3,818 has the Baltimore Ravens winning the AFC before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVIII.

In this specific scenario, the Ravens get to the Super Bowl by beating the division rival Cincinnati Bengals not once, twice, but thrice before falling in a low-scoring finale.

“The Ravens won the division as an 11-win No. 3 seed, while the Bengals finished one game back as the No. 6 seed,” ESPN’s Seth Walder writes. “The rivals squared off a third time in the playoffs, with the result mirroring the first two. Jackson flourished and the Ravens sacked Joe Burrow five times in a 31-19 defeat to send Cincinnati home.”

In the Super Bowl, the Eagles’ defense, fueled by second-year defensive tackle Jordan Davis’ run-stuffing and linebacker Haason Reddick’s pass rush — stifled the Ravens’ offense. The Eagles won 14-10, and redemption for Super Bowl LVII was complete.”

Baltimore faced off against the Eagles earlier this summer, as their reserves and prospects took a 20-19 preseason decision on Aug. 12.

SEPTEMBER 4 ROSTER MOVES The Ravens released quarterback Anthony Brown from the practice squad to make room for defensive back Tae Hayes, who was then added to the practice squad. The former Boston College and Oregon product went undrafted in 2022 and is free to sign with any other team.

Hayes is fresh off a USFL championship with the Birmingham Stallions and has spent time with seven NFL teams.

AUGUST 25 LANCE TO COWBOYS The Dallas Cowboys are sending a 2024 fourth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for former No. 3 overall pick (2021) Trey Lance.

San Francisco has paid Lance $27 million for less than 300 snaps and for just four starts. He now gets a fresh start in Dallas, probably playing as the 3rd string emergency quarterback behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.

AUGUST 22 MCLAURIN DAY-TO-DAY AFTER INJURY VS RAVENS Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin has been labeled day-to-day in a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network after sustaining a toe injury during Monday’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. There is “optimism” that McLaurin will be ready for the Commanders’ Week 1 opener against Arizona on Sept. 10.

McLaurin, set to enter his fifth season out of Ohio State, is the undisputed top offensive option in Washington, earning his first Pro Bowl nomination last season with a career-best 1,191 yards last year. He put up 39 yards on a trio of receptions from newly installed starter Sam Howell in the first half before the ailment took him out of the remainder of the game.

AUGUST 21 VETERAN LB BRANDON COPELAND RETIRES Veteran NFL linebacker Brandon Copeland disclosed his retirement plans to ESPN on Monday, set to end a seven-season career. Copeland’s tenure was bookended by training camp and practice squad stints with the Ravens, an ironic spot for the Maryland native and nephew of late Baltimore Colts Super Bowl champion Roy Hilton.

“One of the pieces of advice I got from my granddad, going into my rookie year in the NFL, we sat down and did an interview and somebody said, because he was a Baltimore Colt and I was a Baltimore Raven, they asked what advice would you give to your grandson as he enters the NFL?” Copeland recalled to Michael Rothstein of ESPN. “He said, ‘If I could tell him anything, if I could do anything different, it would be don’t play as long.'”

Copeland, 32, did not appear in any regular season games with the Ravens, he played his seven seasons between Detroit, the New York Jets, New England, and Atlanta. His most notable Baltimore moment was an interception and 32-yard runback in his 2013 preseason debut against Tampa Bay.

AUGUST 21 JACOBS EXPECTED TO REPORT Raiders’ disgruntled running back Josh Jacobs is expected to report to the team before Week 1 per reports.

Jacobs has still not signed his franchise tag tender but is now expected to do so before the Raiders’ season opener against the Denver Broncos.

The two sides have not yet reached a deal, but can still agree on a one-year deal, or Jacobs can sign his franchise tender for $10.1 million. Jacobs has missed all of training camp, but because he’s not under contract, he’s not subject to any fines.

AUGUST 17 RAVEN DARBY Former Bills, Eagles, Commanders and Broncos cornerback Ronald Darby has agreed to a one-year, $3.2 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The former second-round pick from 2015 spent the last two seasons in Denver, missing all but five games last season after tearing an ACL in October.

In 89 games played over the past eight seasons, Darby has registered eight interceptions, one forced fumble along with 373 tackles.

AUGUST 16 VITALE ON OHER Dick Vitale, the legendary college basketball sportscaster, is bothered by the twists and turns of the Michael Oher said, having tweeted: “One of my fav sports stories has now become a soap opera. Really, really sad!”

As Ravens fans know, the retired NFL lineman is alleging that the Tuohy family that took him in raked in millions of dollars while profiting off of his life story – made into the $300 million-grossing film “The Blind Side” – without Oher himself benefiting.

The Tuohys’ legal team asserts that Oher received “an equal cut of every penny they received” and is calling the lawsuit an orchestrated “shakedown.”

AUGUST 13 RAVENS SIGN HAYES The Baltimore Ravens have brought in reinforcements at cornerback after their preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens have claimed cornerback Tae Hayes off waivers following his release from the Detroit Lions.

Hayes, 25, has made his way around the NFL since going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Appalachian State. Since being signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019, Hayes has played for seven other teams, not including the Ravens.

After starting last season in the USFL with the Birmingham Stallions, where he even won the league’s championship, he’d end up signing with the Carolina Panthers for a second time in his career. After Hayes was promoted and then demoted to and from the practice squad, he was released and signed by the New England Patriots in December.

Despite re-signing with the Patriots this past offseason, Hayes was released in June and then signed by the Lions in August, where he was then waived just seven days later.

AUGUST 10 RICE IS BACK Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was seen at Ravens training camp on Thursday and he was seen talking to young fans in a photo posted on social media.

It’s been a decade since Rice played in the NFL after a domestic violence incident with his then-fiance and now-wife Janay Palmer prompted his indefinite suspension and subsequent new NFL domestic violence policy.

Rice recorded 9,214 yards and 43 touchdowns in six seasons with the Ravens. However, a domestic violence incident halted his career.

AUGUST 10 SEND IN THE CLOWN(EY) Raven Country reported that journeyman defensive end Jadeveon Clowney met with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, and now further reports indicate the Ravens have offered Clowney a contract.

He has signed four consecutive one-year contracts that averaged almost $10 million a season, but he didn’t sign his one-year, $12.25 million deal with the Titans until Sept. 6, 2020.

He probably won’t draw that kind of paycheck this time around, as the 30-year-old has registered just 14 sacks and 42 quarterback hits the past four seasons combined, while missing 19 games.

AUGUST 9 BATEMAN BACK! Ravens WR Rashod Bateman has been activated from the PUP list and was practicing with the team on Wednesday per Ian Rapoport.

Bateman has been dealing with a Lisfranc injury that cut his 2022 season short. The Ravens took the recovery slow-and-steady and are now at the point where he can practice with his team.

AUGUST 9 RAVENS EXTEND WASHINGTON As the Ravens attempt to bolster their offensive line, they’ve re-signed one of their own. Defensive tackle Broderick Washington has signed a three-year, $17.5 million extension with the teams that includes $10 million in guaranteed money.

In 39 career games in Charm City, Washington has started 11 while registering 67 tackles, two sacks, and seven quarterback hits.

AUGUST 8 CLOWNEY IS IN THE BUILDING Free agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney visited with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday as they attempt to bolster their pass rush prior to the 2023 season.

The Ravens would be Clowney’s fifth NFL team since he came into the league in 2014 as the No. 1 overall draft pick of the Houston Texans.

In nine seasons with Houston, Seattle, Tennessee and Cleveland, Clowney has registered one interception that was a pick-6, eight fumble recoveries with three being returned for touchdowns, 320 tackles with 224 solo and 90 for loss, and 109 quarterback hits in 109 career games.

AUGUST 7 SHERMAN FOR SHARPE Former Seahawk, 49er and Buccaneer Richard Sherman “won” the chance to go back and forth with media splinter Skip Bayless on the FS1 outlet “Undisputed.” 

As reported on Monday, Sherman will appear on 50-100 of the FS1 episodes alongside Bayless, while still serving as an analyst on Amazon Video’s Thursday Night Football.

Sherman will be one of a number of replacements for former host and former Ravens and Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe. One such replacement announced previously is rapper Lil Wayne, who will appear for at least one segment every Friday.

AUGUST 4 NEW HOME FOR DRAKE With the current situation involving Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, the team is apparently preparing for an extended holdout. Indianapolis has signed former Dolphins, Cardinals, Raiders and Ravens running back Kenyan Drake, according to multiple reports.

Drake, 29, rushed for 482 yards on 109 carries with four touchdowns last season in Baltimore. For his career, he’s registered 3,866 yards and 33 touchdowns over seven seasons in 101 regular-season games.

JULY 26 BURROW CARTED OFF A year ago, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was sidelined after undergoing an appendectomy at the beginning of training camp. He playfully drove a golf cart alongside teammates while they were running sprints.

This time? Not so playful, as Bengals star on Thursday was carted off the Cincy practice field amid grave concern.

Burrow – a main obstacle in the Ravens’ goal of winning the division on the way to the playoffs – pulled up lame in the middle of his work with the offense. There was speculation that it might be a calf injury; that’s now confirmed.

As one Bengals beat writer on the scene said, “Massive news.” Indeed – and that may be an understatement.

JULY 25 HERBERT HIGHEST PAID QB Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has agreed to a massive five-year, $262.5 million contract extension that will keep him in LA and make him the highest-paid signal-caller in the NFL.

JULY 25 MORE ROSTER MOVES The Baltimore Ravens claimed WR Makai Polk off waivers after the Giants released him, as he makes his return to Baltimore. Polk signed with the Ravens last offseason as an undrafted free agent from Mississippi State and was moved to the practice squad early in the season.

Upon his release in Baltimore, he was signed to the Giants’ practice squad, remaining with New York on a futures deal. He did not appear in a regular season game for either team last season.

The Ravens have released receivers Andy Isabella and Mie Thomas, and officially signed running back Melvin Gordon and long snapper Tyler Ott. The team placed Nick Moore on the non-football injury list after he tore his Achilles in preparation for the season.

JULY 25 HARBAUGH OUT 4 GAMES Jim Harbaugh, brother to Ravens coach John, is facing a four-game suspension to start the 2023 college football season. The Michigan Wolverines coach has been suspended by the NCAA for penalties stemming from recruiting violations and “false claims” he made to investigators earlier in the offseason.

Additionally, according to the report from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, former defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald will receive a one-year show-cause penalty.

Offensive Coordinator Sherrone Moore and tight ends coach Grant Newsome are also expected to receive one-game suspensions.

JULY 24 MOORE OUT OTT IN Ravens All-Pro long snapper Nick Moore has suffered an Achilles tear while he was preparing for the upcoming season and will miss the entire 2023 season.

Baltimore has reached out to former Seahawks long snapper Tyler Ott who has agreed to terms with the Ravens. The 31-year-old out of Harvard has also spent time with the Bengals, Giants, Rams and Patriots.

JULY 24 HOPKINS SIGNS CONTRACT Former Ravens free agent wideout target DeAndre Hopkins has signed his two-year deal with Tennessee, the team announced on Monday.

“I feel really good — blessed,” Hopkins said in a video released by the team. “Grateful to be here. Thank you, Nashville. Thank you, Tennessee. Let’s get to work.”

Hopkins’ deal is worth a reported $26 million with another $3 million  available in incentives. He’s set to make a base salary of $12 million in 2023.

JULY 21 RAVENS OPEN WITH PUP MOVES Baltimore placed five players on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to start training camp, a group of names led by running back J.K. Dobbins.

Also in the mix are fullback Patrick Ricard, cornerback Pepe Williams, defensive tackle Rayshad Nichols and wide receiver Mike Thomas. It is assumed there are no major issues here at this time.

Additionally, Rashod Bateman (foot) was placed on the reserve/did not report list. “I have spoken to Rashod and we expect him here very soon,” Ravens GM Eric DeCosta said via ESPN.

JULY 16 HOPKINS TO TENNESSEE Star receiver DeAndre Hopkins is signing with the Tennessee Titans per multiple reports.

The Titans are giving Hopkins a 2-year, $26 million deal worth up to $32 million with incentives, per reports. Hopkins was being courted by several NFL teams since his release from the Arizona Cardinals on May 26.

The Baltimore Ravens were one of those teams who showed interest, looking to add him to a new-look receiving corps that includes Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor, and first-round draft pick Zay Flowers.

JUNE 30 CAM ON RAVENS Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward knows his way around the Ravens roster, having been part of the rivalry for more than a decade. And he’s got a question … and a compliment … for Baltimore.

“They had a recipe for success and they were doing it without Lamar (Jackson) for half the year,” Heyward said while appearing on the 3&Out podcast, ““It’s going to be different for them, but I’m wondering if there’s going to have to be a mixture of both. …”

Does that sound like Heyward is being negative about the changes Baltimore made on offense this offseason, from the hiring of coordinator Todd Monken to the adds of Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers to an offense now featuring a healthy and under-contract Lamar? Nope. That’s not his point.

About that “mixture,” he said, “Whether it’s staying on the same page as you had last year, or adding some things, adding some wrinkles, because that running game is second to none.”

JUNE 27 MALLETT DEAD AT 35 Former Ravens, Patriots, and Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett has died at the age of 35 after drowning at a Destin, Florida beach.

Mallett played for the Ravens from 2015 through 2017 and appeared in eight games over parts of three seasons, throwing for 648 yards and four touchdowns to three interceptions.

Mallett recently accepted a position as head coach of White Hall High School in Arkansas after serving as an assistant there since 2020. He was drafted out of Arkansas by New England in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

“Our hearts go out to Ryan’s family and we offer every condolence to them today. Ryan was a part of us,” coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. “I will always remember the love he had for his teammates and for making the most of, and enjoying every football day while here. Once a Raven always a Raven, R.I.P. Ryan.”

JUNE 8 D-ROB IN LOS ANGELES Former Ravens wide receiver Demarcus Robinson is signing with the Los Angeles Rams per Ian Rapoport.

Robinson spent 2022 with the Ravens, catching 48 balls on 75 targets for 458 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson spent the previous six seasons in Kansas City where he had 145 receptions for 1,679 yards and 14 scores.

JUNE 5 PERRIMAN IN INDY Former Ravens wideout Breshad Perriman has signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Perriman was a 2015 first-round pick of the Ravens and has also played for the Commanders, Browns, Bucs, Jets, Lions, and Bears.

The 29-year old caught 36 balls for 645 yards and six touchdowns in 2019 as a member of the Buccaneers.

JUNE 2 HOPKINS LOWBALL? DeAndre Hopkins is available on the open market now that he’s a free agent, and the Ravens have been mentioned as a potential suitor for the ex Arizona Cardinals star and five-time Pro Bowler.

But there’s a problem: Hopkins was expected to be the center of a bidding war, and maybe he will be. But there are also sources citing people from inside various teams who are issuing negative reviews of the player …  and now, when it comes to a contract number, there is a painfully lowball report.

One NFL executive told ESPN’s Dianna Russini that his team would love to sign Hopkins …  but due to their limited cap space, their offer would be only a one-year, $2 million deal.

Said Russini: “An NFL executive expressed a willingness to sign Hopkins for a mere $2 million if he’ll take it, but not more. Knowing Hopkins will go for a much bigger deal.”

We suppose that is true. And Hopkins doesn’t need to be in a hurry. But the Dallas Cowboys are among the teams that don’t seem very interested. There are negative vibes coming from the Patriots and the Texans and a Bills team that is reportedly “not all in.” Maybe the Browns will win the race as he would reunite with Deshaun Watson? Maybe the Ravens, who’ve been rumored to be involved, will be happy to beat a “one-year, $2 million” offer? Stay tuned.

MAY 27 WILL HE BE MADDEN? Will Ferrell can play just about any role he gets his hands on. Especially when it comes to sports movies. And now, he might get a chance to prove that even further.

Reports are that Ferrell is in talks to play former Raiders coach and legendary broadcaster John Madden in a film that chronicles the life of the Super Bowl winning coach.

The film will be directed by five-time Oscar nominee David O. Russell for Amazon/MGM. … and it seems the origin of the “Madden” video games will be a focus of the project.

MAY 15 PETERS TO VEGAS? The Las Vegas Raiders are trying to fix a bad secondary by inviting a former Pro Bowl cornerback to the table. Cornerback Marcus Peters, 30 – coming off his eighth NFL season and fourth with the Baltimore Ravens – is a free agent with credentials … but also with a recent injury past.

Peters made three Pro Bowls in his first five NFL seasons and was also a two-time All-Pro during that span. He’s a playmaker who had led the league in interception return yards four times. But Peters is obviously not being prioritized in Baltimore at this time in part due to injury. He missed the full 2021 season and he was out for six more games between 2020 and 2021.

MAY 12 SNYDER OUT The breaking news Washington Commanders fans have been dreaming of for so long – decades, in a sense – finally came on Friday as Dan Snyder is now out of the NFL business.

Via a tweet from ESPN, “Washington Commanders and a partnership led by Josh Harris have entered into a purchase and sale agreement, it was jointly announced today.”

While this move has been expected for some time, we’re told the mood at Commanders HQ was all about “a wave of excitement (that) spread quickly as the focus in Ashburn shifted from rookie player development to franchise-altering events.”

In a statement by Commanders co-owners Tanya and Dan Snyder, shared by ESPN, the couple also expressed hope the transition will be handled swiftly.

“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement for the sale of the Commanders franchise with Josh Harris,” the statement reads. “We look forward to the prompt completion of this transaction and to rooting for Josh and the team in the coming years.”

MAY 10 RAVENS IN LONDON The Baltimore Ravens will flock across the pond for a game during the upcoming season.

The league announced Wednesday morning that the Ravens will “visit” the Tennessee Titans at Tottenham in Week 6 on Oct. 15.

This will be the Ravens’ second-ever appearance in London, following a 2017 blowout loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

MAY 9 NEW RB IN TAMPA? Former Ohio State Buckeyes running back great Ezekiel Elliott is reportedly close to signing with a new NFL team per multiple sources including BuckeyesNow.com.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Elliott ‘could potentially sign’ with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the No. 2 back. The Buccaneers are in the midst of a rebuild after the retirement of Tom Brady, and are looking for a backup to starter, Rachaad White.

Elliott was released by the Dallas Cowboys after seven seasons with the team and has been mired in a tough running back market searching for a new home ever since.

APRIL 28 NO HOP? Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort said after the end of Friday’s first round that he doesn’t expect to trade Hopkins during this weekend’s NFL Draft.

“I don’t foresee that happening,” Ossenfort said Thursday night. “I don’t know what is going to happen here in the next couple days. Right now, I don’t foresee that happening, no.”

But could the Ravens, having just re-signed Lamar Jackson while also adding receivers OBJ (as a free agent) and Zay Flowers (in the first round) still make something happen on Hopkins?

“DeAndre’s a Cardinal,” Ossenfort said, “and we’re moving forward.”

APRIL 26 LAMAR SQUAREPANTS On Tuesday night, Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson tweeted a gif featuring a smiling SpongeBob Squarepants. And of course Ravens fans are going nuts trying to solve the riddle … Or just wondering if the 26-year-old QB simply likes cartoons.

Is this about Lamar signing a new contract? Is it about the Ravens being on the verge of another major transaction, like a trade for DeAndre Hopkins? Is it cryptic trolling in a way that toys unnecessarily with the emotions of devoted Baltimore fans?

In our opinion, in order: Maybe. Maybe. And definitely yes.

APRIL 24 RODGERS IS NOW A JET The Aaron Rodgers trade is finally done. Scratch off one of the major offseason stories from the current list, leaving maybe the Ravens/Lamar saga alone at the top of NFL stories.

Per Adam Schefter, the Jets get: Aaron Rodgers, pick No. 15, a 2023 fifth-round pick (No. 170).

The Packers get: Pick No. 13, a 2023 second-round pick (No. 42), a sixth-round pick (No. 207), and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first-rounder if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the plays.

Some think this makes the Jets an immediate favorite to win the AFC East.

APRIL 21 OBJ SAYS NO Odell Beckham Jr. has been named as a suspect in an assault investigation, with his circle “vehemently denying” the allegation.

Beckham, who signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens this offseason, was at a Los Angeles night spot several weeks ago and was allegedly involved in an incident in which a woman went to police claiming the NFL superstar put his hand around her neck.

Law enforcement officials tell TMZ Sports the alleged incident occurred at “Delilah,” with the woman claiming the 30-year-old Beckham approached her and “grabbed her throat with light pressure,” as explained by TMZ, which has also spoken with “a rep for Odell” who insists the allegations are false.

Additionally, John Terzian, owner of the L.A. hotspot, told TMZ, “We were contacted about an investigation and reviewed the videos, the claim is false. There is no evidence of this person even being in the area where she claims the incident occurred.”

APRIL 20 EAGLES BOTCHED ANNOUNCEMENT After announcing the hiring of Matt Patricia earlier in the day, then deleting the tweet, the announcement is apparently now official per ESPN.

Philadelphia has hired Patricia as a defensive assistant coach.

“Obviously, his resume speaks for itself,” Sirianni said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN. “He gives you a great mind in there that’s done it at the highest level; gives me another former head coach I can bounce ideas off.”

Patricia spent last season calling offensive plays for the Patriots under Bill Belichick.

APRIL 20 RAVENS ADD WR DEPTH The Ravens signed WR Tarik Black to their 90-man offseason roster on Wednesday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Black spent time on the Baltimore practice squad at the end of the 2022 season. He appeared in one game for the Jets in 2021 and caught one pass for 10 yards in that appearance.

APRIL 18 TRAGEDY STRIKES Defensive end Chris Smith, who ended his eight-year NFL career as a member of the Houston Texans, has died at the age of 31.

No cause of death has been announced regarding Smith, who just hours before his passing played in a game for the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL.

Smith, who entered the league via the 2014 NFL Draft, spent time with seven different teams across eight seasons in the league, ending his pro career with the Texans in 2021 after a short stint with the Ravens in 2021 offseason.

His personal life was recently marked by tragedy as he dealt with the death of his partner, the mother of his daughter. Petara Cordero was 26 when she passed away in a 2019 highway accident in Cleveland after his Lamborghini had a tire malfunction.

When Cordero exited the vehicle and was standing at the side of the road, another vehicle smashed into the side of the Lamborghini – with the 47-year-old woman behind the wheel of the second car later admitting to having been drinking.

Smith and Cordero’s daughter, Haven Harris, was born just four weeks before the tragic accident, and now she’s lost both parents.

APRIL 17 HURTS GETS RICH The Philadelphia Eagles have signed quarterback Jalen Hurts to a five-year, $255 million contract extension. The deal includes $179.304 million in guarantees and a no-trade clause. It’s also reported to be the largest contract ever negotiated by a female sports agent.

APRIL 13 COMMANDERS SALE? Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder has agreed to sell the franchise to Josh Harris, the owner of the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers, and Mitchell Rales.

Unless, that is, Canadian billionaire Steve Apostopolous is “still in the mix for the Commanders, with one source telling ESPN that it’s “a head-to-head race. … It’s anyone’s game.”

Either way … After 24 years as the team’s owner Snyder will, at last, leave the NFL spotlight after the last few years of his run have been surrounded by controversy and scandal, all on top of not being able to put a winning product on the field.

According to reports the sale will see the franchise bought for around $6 billion, up from $750 million that Snyder paid for the Commanders back in 1999.

APRIL 12 OBJ AND POTUS Odell Beckham Jr. and Donald Trump both happened to be in attendance at UFC 287 in Miami over the weekend. … and so naturally the two luminaries found one another.

The Baltimore Ravens’ newest wide receiver, along with Bengals QB Joe Burrow, was spotted briefly greeting the former President. … as you can see by the photo.

APRIL 7: GRONK ON LAMAR Let’s not call this a “prediction.”

Let’s just call it a “dream.”

The New England Patriots had arguably the best quarterback ever during Tom Brady’s victorious 19-year run. But Rob Gronkowski is hinting that Pats coach Bill Belichick always harbored a dream of sorts.

Speaking on FanDuel’s “Up & Adams” show, the legendary tight end said that Belichick always wished for a dual-threat talent like … Lamar Jackson

“Coach Belichick always kind of dreamed of a quarterback (that wasn’t) just a pocket passer but like a Lamar Jackson-type, the one that could be able to run the ball as well,” Gronkowski said. “I just feel like he likes those types of quarterbacks from all the times he talked about them in meetings and stuff when we were going against them.”

That doesn’t mean a trade is happening; Gronk in fact predicts it won’t. But we know Lamar likes the idea.

And now we know that speaking generally, Belichick might kinda like it, too.

APRIL 2 A DIFFERENT BIRD Darius Slay was nearly cut by the Philadelphia Eagles and was close to signing with the Baltimore Ravens.

How close?

Slay, on his podcast, “Big Play,” held his two fingers together and said, “I was almost, almost, this close to being a Baltimore Raven.”

Slay ultimately wanted to stay with the Eagles, a team he helped captain to the Super Bowl this past season.

“I wanted to be an Eagle, I stayed an Eagle because I knew me and Howie (GM Roseman) would figure something out,” he said.

“But the Baltimore Ravens were the first team that called and they offered just what I wanted and I just said if the Eagles did that, I’m going to stay an Eagle. I was almost a Raven, I was almost a different bird.”

MARCH 28 BROWNS RESPOND The Lamar Jackson contract dispute is commonly considered to be in part the Cleveland Browns having given quarterback Deshaun Watson a fully guaranteed $230 million contract … thus setting the bar for Jackson’s ask.

But now Browns owner Jimmy Haslam would like to express his thoughts.

“Every team, every business, has to look and do what they think is in the best interest of their team,” Haslam said. “We did what we thought was in the best interest of our team. We still feel that way.

“So, we’re excited to, if you will, have the stuff behind us.”

Haslam is right, of course … because to suggest that one team should keep its QB’s salary down in order to help another team do the same sort of smacks of collusion.

In short, it’s not the responsibility of Watson and the Browns to fix Baltimore’s problem. That’s the responsibility of Jackson and the Ravens.

MARCH 25 CALAIS CAMPBELL TOUR CONTINUES

Former Ravens DL Calais Campbell will follow his visit with the Jags last Thursday with a visit to the AFC East’s Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.

The Ravens released Campbell on March 13 to save $7 million in cap space.

He has previously visited with the Falcons as he weighs possibilities for his next NFL destination.

MARCH 23 CALAIS CAMPBELL VISITS JAGS

Former Ravens DL Calais Campbell visited the Jaguars on Thursday per Demetrius Harvey of Jacksonville.com.

The Ravens released Campbell earlier in the month due to salary cap issues. Campbell played for three seasons in Baltimore, making the Pro Bowl once and recording his only double-digit sack seasons in 2017 and 2018.

Campbell turns 37 in September.

MARCH 19 ADAM THIELEN TO PANTHERS?

Former Minnesota Vikings receiver Adam Thielen has agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers per reports. The free agent wideout was considered to be a possible target for the Baltimore Ravens as they attempt to re-tool their receivers corps.

He signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2013, playing for them for ten seasons. Thielen holds several NFL records, including eight straight games of over 100+ yards receiving, and 74 receptions in the first half of a season.

Per reports, the deal with Carolina is for three years. Financial terms have not yet been disclosed.

MARCH 15 HELLO, GOODBYE!

Goodbye, Geno Stone. The Ravens do not plan to tender RFA safety Geno Stone, who started seven games for Baltimore’s secondary last year. He will be a free agent.

Hello, Justice Hill. Running back Justice Hill is returning to the Ravens backfield in 2023 after signing a  two-year deal on Wednesday.

MARCH 13 GUS MOVE?

There has been talk of a potential casualty is running back Gus Edwards, who is in the final year of his deal and would provide a cap savings of $4.4 million by being released.

But on Monday morning, the Ravens reportedly went another way, Edwards agreeing to a paycut of about $1 million.

Edwards missed the 2021 season with a knee injury and was limited to nine games last year. He will be among those who play behind J.K. Dobbins as the starter.

MARCH 11 BUD GRANT DIES 

Bud Grant, the Hall of Fame coach who led the Minnesota Vikings to four Super Bowl appearances, has died at the age of 95, the Vikings announced Saturday.

“We are absolutely devastated to announce legendary Minnesota Vikings head coach and Hall of Famer Bud Grant has passed away this morning at age 95. We, like all Vikings and NFL fans, are shocked and saddened by this terrible news.”

Grant coached 28 seasons for the Vikings and the CFL, with his teams reaching the playoffs 20 of those seasons. Including 10 championship games and four Super Bowls. Notably, Grant was the first coach to lose four Super Bowls.

Grant was also the first person to be inducted into both the CFL Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame with a career regular-season record of 158-96-5 in the NFL and 102-56-2 in the CFL.

MARCH 10 A TRADE AT THE TOP 

The Carolina Panthers have reportedly traded up with the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears give up their 2023 No. 1 pick, while receiving from the Panthers, No. 9 pick, No. 61 pick, 2024 first-round pick, 2025 second-round pick, WR D.J. Moore.

The Panthers can now draft their quarterback of the future.

MARCH 8 NEW OLB COACH IN TOWN 

Head coach John Harbaugh announced on Wednesday that the Ravens have hired Chuck Smith to be their new outside linebackers coach.

“Chuck is a proven and highly-respected pass rush coach who many pro and collegiate players have sought guidance from,” Harbaugh stated. “He brings unique insight, experience and passion to the Ravens, and we’re confident that he’ll have a great impact on our outside linebackers group.”

MARCH 7 WILSON WILL COACH DBs 

Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh announced on Tuesday that the organization has hired Dennard Wilson as defensive backs coach.

“Dennard joining our defensive coaching staff is a strong addition to our team, and he will help us continue to develop our players and scheme in the strongest possible way,” Harbaugh stated. “Dennard is a proven coach who has brought the best out of his units consistently throughout his NFL career. His history of working with defensive backs at the highest level will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our room. We’re excited to welcome Dennard to the Ravens and know he’s looking forward to coming home to Maryland.”

He most recently spent two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he served as defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs (2022) and as defensive backs coach (2021). Wilson, 40, enters his 12th year as an NFL coach and ninth leading defensive backs at the pro level.

MARCH 5 BARSTOOL PRANKED! 

During an appearance on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take, ESPN’s Adam Schefter decided he’d pull a prank on the hosts by dropping some fake Lamar Jackson news – that he’s close to being traded to the Washington Commanders.

It was only a prank, however, and it appears the Ravens will attempt to use the franchise tag on Jackson. But general manager Eric DeCosta has not indicated which tag designation they will use for the signal-caller.

The Commanders have been linked to Jackson as a possible trade partner for Baltimore, along with Atlanta, New Orleans, and the Jets.

FEB 28 EAGLES’ NEW OC 

The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t have to look very far for their replacement for former OC Shane Steichen, who was hired as the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

The Eagles are promoting former QB coach Biran Johnson, per ESPN.

Johnson was considered for OC of other teams but ultimately stayed in Philly, and now has been promoted.

Which has the Ravens QB scoffing.

During a recent PFT conversation, Mike Florio and Chris Simms suggested that Jackson misses out on marketing opportunities because he represents himself.

Florio specifically referred to “the shoe contract that wasn’t, because he doesn’t have a marketing firm.”

Lamar responded to the conversation on Twitter tonight, using a GIF of a confounded LeBron James to essentially deny the gossip.

Jackson not only doesn’t have an agent; he also doesn’t have a contract and the Ravens are expected to use the franchise tag on him before next Tuesday’s deadline.

FEB 26 JOURNEYMAN OC LANDS IN CLEVELAND After most recently serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Cal, Bill Musgrave is being hired by the Cleveland Browns to serve as an offensive assistant per NFL Media.

Musgrave has been coaching in the league since 1997, serving most recently with the Broncos in 2018. Musgrave and Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski worked together in the Vikings organization from 2011 to 2013.

Muagrave, who played quarterback for Oregon, was drafted into the NFL in the 1991 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys at No. 106 overall in the fourth round.

FEB 25 LAMAR JACKSON FALCONS JERSEY JOKE? RavenCountry.com has been suggesting for weeks that quarterback Lamar Jackson could be traded to the Falcons for a variety of packages.

While that’s just speculation on our part, something peculiar happened on Saturday morning.

A video showing a Lamar Jackson Falcons jersey forale on the NFL Shop appeared on social media.

Clearly, this is just a prank someone very successfully pulled off, but it certainly got Falcons fans in a tizzy. What about Ravens fans? They’re split somewhere down the middle when it comes to keeping Jackson or trading him.

March 7 starts the franchise tag period and that’s an important date for Ravens fans.

FEB 24 CHIEFS PROMOTE NAGY The Kansas City Chiefs have promoted quarterbacks coach and senior assistant Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator.

Nagy returned to the Chiefs after being fired as coach of the Chicago Bears in 2021. Nagy held the same position in 2016 and 2017 before leaving to become head coach of the Bears.

There was no word about external interviews for the position after Eric Bieniemy left to become the OC in Washington, but the Rooney Rule dictates that teams must interview at least one external minority candidate for coordinator positions.

It’s possible the Chiefs either kept that interview private, or they’ll be hearing from the NFL.

FEB 23 RAVENS LOSE DEFENSIVE COACH Baltimore Ravens safeties coach D’Anton Lynn is expected to take over as defensive coordinator.

Lynn has spent the last two seasons coaching the defensive backs in 2021 and safeties in 2022. before coming to the Ravens he spent time with the Texans as the team’s secondary coach and with the Chargers, working under his father Anthony, coaching the linebackers.

FEB 22 RAVENS GET NEW RB COACH The Baltimore Ravens are expected to hire a new running backs coach in Willie Taggart per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Taggart is a former head coach at FAU, Florida State, Oregon, South Florida, and Western Kentucky.

FEB 21 RAY LEWIS ‘ADVICE’ IN MURDER? There is new information coming out about the killing of a woman that has resulted in murder charges for Alabama basketball player Darius Miles.

And the new information puts Ravens great Ray Lewis in the spotlight in an unusual way.

AL.com is revealing the sequence of events that led to the killing of Jamea Jonae Harris, details that include freshman Brandon Miller supplying the gun.

Alabama coach Nate Oats said the team was aware of that fact, but that Miller will not face any legal charges or discipline from the team.

Said Oats: “Wrong spot at the wrong time.”

And what does Lewis have to do with this? The Athletic is citing another twist: Lewis was charged with murder after two men were stabbed outside a nightclub in 2000, but those charges were dropped after the All-Pro player pleaded guilty to obstruction to justice.

And Oats, in search of answers to try to handle Alabama’s sad situation, said he consulted Lewis for “advice” since he faced a “similar” situation to Miles.

By the way: Harris’ mother, DeCarla Heard, told AL.com that the shooting was triggered when the suspects tried to talk to Harris, who informed them she had a boyfriend and wasn’t interested.

Jamea Jonae Harris, the mother of a 5-year-old, was 23.

FEB 21: TEE STAYING After interviewing for the Colts’ open offensive coordinator position, the Indianapolis franchise has elected to pass on Ravens receivers coach Tee Martin.

The Colts hired former Jags passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter instead to work under new head coach Shane Steichen.

Martin will remain with the Ravens organization for at least the 2023 season.

FEB 17: TEE TO THE COLTS? The Indianapolis Colts have requested permission to interview Tee Martin for their offensive coordinator position.

Martin has served as the wide receivers coach in Baltimore for two seasons after spending 15 seasons in the college ranks.

The Colts recently hired Shane Steichen as head coach, who is expected to call his own plays.

FEB 14: A NEW FACE IN BALTIMORE The Baltimore Ravens have announced the hiring of former Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken to fill the same position within the organization.

Monken arrives at the Ravens after helping the Georgia Bulldogs win back-to-back national championships and with previous NFL experience.

FEB 6: DENIED! As Jim Harbaugh’s search for a new offensive coordinator to replace the departed Greg Roman continues, the Ravens were denied permission to speak with Jaguars OC Press Taylor.

Per The Athletic, after initial video interviews went well, Harbaugh has scheduled in-person interviews with University of Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Minnesota Vikings pass game coordinator and tight ends coach Brian Angelichio, and former Ravens wide receivers and tight ends coach and Wisconsin offensive coordinator Bobby Engram.

FEB 4: BIENIEMY PLUS 4? The Ravens have now, by our count, interviewed four candidates a second time each … and while waiting on Eric Bieniemy, seem to have zeroed in on the final bunch.

 

Brian Angelichio reportedly has set his second visit with the Ravens. That puts him on a list with Seahawks quarterbacks coach Dave Canales, Broncos offensive coordinator Justin Outten and University of Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

And then of course there is Bieniemy, Andy Reid’s top offensive aide in Kansas City as the Chiefs prep to take on the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Coach John Harbaugh is working to replace the ougoing Greg Roman, with QB Lamar Jackson having a voice of some sort into the new hire.

The Cowboys also have on their list Angelichio – prently the Vikings passing game coordinator with a tight ends background – who was a Mike McCarthy assistant in their Packers days together.

Another Cowboys connection: Former Dallas assistant Doug Nussmeier has also interviewed with the Ravens.

FEB 1 LAMAR’S VOTE? “I did ask Lamar [Jackson] about it, and he will be involved in it,” head coach John Harbaugh said recently about the Baltimore Ravens’ search for a new coordinator. “I’ll keep him abreast of what’s going on, and I’m sure he’ll have some input along the way …”

“Input.”

As in, Jackson literally gets a vote, because in a sense the Ravens and the QB are (going to be) in business together?

Or, as in Jackson is invited to represent the locker room as a voice?

FEB 1 TOPS IN THE WORLD! The Baltimore Ravens are not shy about what they are offering the next offensive coordinator.

“This,” coach John Harbaugh said, “is going to be a highly sought-after job. This is one of the top football coaching jobs in the world. Everybody’s going to want this job.”

Great. Now, does Georgia’s Todd Monken fit with “the top job in the world”? We say “yes,” for now – at least in the form of another interview to explore how he can get his college success to transfer back up to the NFL.
