Inside Leeds United’s boardroom talks with Daniel Farke amid growing pressure for transfer action
Leeds United have seen 13 players leave with another three at the heart of bubbling transfer sagas following one point from the opening six in the Championship and supporters are calling for action
Barely 17 days to go and Leeds United remain on four new faces for the summer transfer window. There may have been 13 departures, three further exit sagas coming to the boil, one point from the six available and a 19-man weekend squad with three goalkeepers, but Daniel Farke insists there is confidence behind the scenes.
The pain of Max Aarons’s 11th-hour U-turn last week was only compounded by the powerless farewell to Jack Harrison and Bournemouth’s apparent trigger of Tyler Adams’s relegation clause. Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto are effectively on strike and news of incomings has dried up, leaving supporters feeling low and frustrated.
Had Leeds been moving for players behind the scenes and finding themselves stymied in their pursuits over the past few weeks, their annoyance would have been understandable. However, Farke says confidence and unity remain between him, Angus Kinnear, Gretar Steinsson and Nick Hammond in the plan they are watching unfold.
“Confidence because we have really trustful chats and I totally believe in the quality of our key people,” he said. “I just can give compliments to the key people who are in charge at the moment because they’re fantastic.

“We are all judging the situation in the same way, but it’s sometimes even a bit difficult. When their contracts are made your hands are also a bit tied and when there are financial rules, you need to stick to it.”
Clamour is growing on all sides beyond the four walls of Elland Road for additions to be made rapidly after the alarm bells started ringing on Saturday in Birmingham. An undermanned squad with an average of 23 years old registering one shot on target has supporters worrying.
Farke does not want United to panic buy and bring in the wrong players. He feels they have to stick to the plan and ride out what he always predicted was going to be a difficult August.
“We can’t make ourselves a different reality,” he said. “So, for that, it’s about staying calm, not to panic with a panic buy, we need players who are fully convinced they want to play for Leeds United.
“When we have a look at the players we brought in so far with Karl Darlow, with Ethan Ampadu, with Joe Rodon, withJoe Rodon, , I just have to give compliments because these are quality players, but also with a great character.
“I just can also praise my lads who are together with us. Yes, we know we have an unbelievably young side at the moment and perhaps we’re lacking a bit of quality in some areas, but I have to say they work unbelievably hard and this is always a good basement situation to build on.
“I’m quite sure, in the mid and the long term, we’ll have definitely a good future as a football club. Yes, August will still be a bit bumpy, but we know this so we’re not panicking, we are all experienced enough also to handle this situation quite calmly and we keep going.”
The newspaper reported online (15 August) that Daniel Farke is set to appear before the media on Wednesday (16 August) before the fixture on Friday, with many speculating if the German will provide an update on the Italian forwards.
The Toffees, per the Daily Mail (14 August), have submitted multiple offers exceeding £15million and pressure continues to mount at Elland Road after the 19-year-old’s refusal to play in their 1-0 loss to Birmingham City.
