REPORT: Las Vegas Raiders Has Not Made Massive Decision About 2024 Head Coach
The Las Vegas Raiders have been eliminated from playoff contention this season but have been playing extremely well since Antonio Pierce has taken over as the interim head coach as the team is 4-4 in that stretch after starting 3-5 before then. However, the reports are suggesting that owner Mark Davis is still weighing his options as to if Antonio Pierce will get the interim tag removed.
Josina Anderson of CBS Sports is reporting that she received a text from a Las Vegas Raiders source stating that no decision has been made regarding Pierce’s future.“(Mark Davis) hasn’t tipped his hand yet, but I’m hoping Antonio gets the job. He’s a straight-shooter. He doesn’t mince words when he’s talking to people. He has great football knowledge as a former player. He has great energy everyday. He’s very consistent. He’s a leader. He knows how to relate and that’s what we need.”
After having Josh McDaniels and John Gruden as their last two coaches, it seems as if the Las Vegas Raiders should be in the position to bring a fan-favorite coach who has been doing well like Antonio Pierce has shown to be.
The Las Vegas Raiders are in a weird position but they should be taking full advantage of this opportunity to steer the franchise in the right direction. With quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo essentially reduced to a backup, the team needs to create a solid culture, which Pierce has done an excellent job of doing over the last nine weeks of the regular season.
The Raiders are doing a smart thing here but not immediately giving him the job as this offseason could see a lot of coach movement as Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, Bill Belichick and others could be available. I understand the players want Antonio Pierce to become the official head coach and he likely will be when everything is said and done but having a clear opening to attract a distinguished head coach as Black Monday hits is the best possible move.
This Raiders team has a division full of strong teams in the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos, who all have some questions of their own but the Raiders can become serious threats in the 2024 season.
