Robin Koch pretty much ended his Leeds United spell last summer when he left the club on loan for 2023-24, with his Elland Road deal expiring in June – and now, Florian Plettenberg has an update.

Koch, 27, left Leeds in the summer after three years at the club – one of eight senior players to leave Leeds on loan thanks to the relegation loan clause inserted into Elland Road contracts by Victor Orta.

He joined Europa Conference League side Frankfurt, with the hope he would jump back into Germany’s squad ahead of Euro 2024. Certainly, he has caught the eye of Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann.

The former Freiburg man has helped Frankfurt keep seven clean sheets in his 23 outings, scoring three goals for the Bundesliga side. He has even captained Frankfurt on a number of occasions this season.

A permanent Leeds exit was expected and even more so, it was likely that Koch would join Frankfurt on a deal beyond the summer. Now, Sky Germany’s Plettenberg says a deal for Koch to leave us is close.

It comes after reports earlier this month said that Frankfurt were readying a move to land the defender on a permanent basis beyond the summer. That seems to be appearing true, with Koch impressing.

He has excelled in Frankfurt and it was always expected he would be leaving us beyond his loan. Even, if Leeds gained promotion. Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca are also expected to go.

But there could be a scenario in which Max Wober, Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra and Jack Harrison return to Leeds – with all being linked with a possible second spell at Elland Road. Time will tell.
