Ian Wright wowed by Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford as he scores FA Cup wonder goal
Leeds’ FA Cup journey began today with a testing trip to League One promotion hopefuls Peterborough United, a 13th consecutive away draw in the competition.
Rotation was bound to be on the cards for Daniel Farke, but for Patrick Bamford and co, it was a chance for another strong showing after seeing off Birmingham on New Year’s Day.
After Ethan Ampadu opened the scoring in the first half, Patrick Bamford doubled Leeds’ lead after the interval as he latched onto a searching ball from the Welsh international.
He cheated the ball well under pressure before letting off a stunning volley from range over the ‘keeper to make it 2-0:
His goal sparked viral reaction on social media from neutrals and Leeds fans alike.
Amongst those was Ian Wright, who responded to the footage with this message:
That is absolutely outrageous from Bamford, and a perfect summary of the player he is when he’s full of confidence.
He has had to battle all game on a terrible pitch, and has got his rewards, taking a chance that not many would have backed him to even attempt.
The way in which he celebrated this and his previous goal with the rest of the squad shows how much everyone’s wanted him to come good again.
