Glasgow Rangers are now chasing a move to sign West Ham United full-back Ben Johnson in January.
West Ham defender Ben Johnson is firmly on the radar of Rangers in the January transfer window, after a recent report linked him with a move to Leeds United.
The 23-year-old has fallen well down the full-back pecking order under Hammers manager David Moyes over the past year or so, and now his days at the London Stadium could well be numbered.
Rangers are the latest club to throw their hat in the ring in the race for Johnson’s signature, according to a report from Football Insider.
Johnson has made 57 senior Premier League appearances for West Ham and 93 in total, but only six this season (Transfermarkt).
He’s clearly surplus to requirements at the club, so the sooner we get rid of him the better…
The 23-year-old will be out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer, but he could leave before then with Rangers thought to be chasing his services.
If West Ham manage to get a fee for Johnson this month, it will be a real result as far as I’m concerned.
He’s nowhere near good enough to be playing Premier League football. Maybe the Scottish Premiership will be more his level.
The London-born defender has been awful whenever he’s played for the Hammers this season,
His concentration levels, decision making and atrocious positional awareness have cost the Hammers dearly on numerous occasions over the past year or so.
It’s such a shame how much he has regressed since making his debut for the senior side as a 19-year-old in 2019.
If Rangers sign Ben Johnson from West Ham in the January transfer window, I’ll be a very happy man indeed.
