‘He wants to go’: £20m rival says West Ham 25-year-old wants out after what he’s been told
‘HE WANTS TO GO’: £20M RIVAL SAYS WEST HAM 25-YEAR-OLD WANTS OUT AFTER WHAT HE’S BEEN TOLD
Callum Wilson was shocked to hear that West Ham United have ‘turned down an offer of £70 million’ from Manchester City for Lucas Paqueta.
The Newcastle United striker wasn’t aware of Manchester City’s interest in the Brazil international and he now thinks that he wants to leave for the Treble-winners, as he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
Lucas Paqueta, albeit he started slowly, was an integral figure in West Ham United winning the Europa Conference League last season.
But with that comes scrutiny and eyes on the prize, with Paqueta now keen to secure that transfer if both clubs can agree on a deal.
That’s the last thing someone like David Moyes wanted to hear because he has already lost Declan Rice for a club-record transfer fee this summer and he doesn’t need another key player to head for the exit door.
Nonetheless, with Wilson clearly unaware of these Paqueta rumours, this is how the £20 million star (Sky Sports) reacted to it all when he was told about it.
“From who?” asked Wilson on claims West Ham have rejected a £70 million bid rejected for Paqueta. “Oh, wow,” he added when he was told that it was Manchester City.
“How much did you buy him for? (£52 million responded Michail Antonio), it’s not much profit. If you are a businessman, it’s not much profit, you are probably wanting more.
“If I am Paqueta though and £70 million is coming in, and it’s a good offer, you brought me in for £52m, you are making £80 million on me and I have the champions that want to sign me. He is obviously wanting to go, no?!”
Can West Ham keep hold of Paqueta?
Despite the champions of England, the champions of Europe, and most recently, the UEFA Super Cup winners knocking for your talents, it hasn’t resulted in Paqueta doing anything that would annoy his fanbase.
West Ham picked up a point on the opening weekend of the season when they recorded a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth and Paqueta started.
That’s a positive for the Hammers and hope that, if Man City can’t put money down on the table for the 25-year-old, then there might be a chance that they keep him.
