Former Miami Hurricanes safety James Williams is putting his best foot forward ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Williams, who primarily played safety at Miami, has gained weight from roughly 220 to 230 pounds since the completion of the NCAA season. During Senior Bowl week, he worked largely as a linebacker.

According to Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, NFL teams were impressed by Williams. Nagy responded with an X post to Williams after James thanked the Senior Bowl for his invitation.”Teams have already told me that your desire to work at LB and demonstrate your versatility benefited you. We appreciate your positive attitude and hard work. The best football is way ahead of you. Good luck at the next level, James!”

Williams is described by the Pro Football Network as a “perplexing” prospect owing to his remarkable ability given his size. He possesses the 6-foot-5, 230-pound bulk of a linebacker and the coverage abilities of a safety. They consider him a potential day two draft pick, which means he may be selected in the second or third round.

Williams has 162 tackles, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, and thirteen pass breakups during his three seasons at Miami.
