West Ham United: A sum of £180 million or more is revealed as unpaid transfer fees
According to the West Ham press account on February 6, following recent transfer spending, the Hammers owe other clubs the money, with the majority of recent acquisitions including staggered payments.
By spreading out the payments, clubs are able to counter any possible concerns with Financial Fair Play, Profit, and Sustainability. It also helps with the structure of payments because of the high prices that are being offered.
Premier League teams have ridiculous debt.
Although the amount owing by West Ham isn’t abnormal and isn’t nearly as large as some other Premier League teams, their entire debt in transfer payments makes up about 9% of the overall amount owed by PL teams.
The sum will be boosted by deals for players like Mohamed Kudus (£38 million), James Ward-Prowse (£30 million), and Edson Alvarez (£35 million), all of whom were completed during the same transfer window.
With a total summer spend of £118 million, it would be nearly impossible for teams to execute many deals at those enormous sums without the option to pay over a staggered period, making this season difficult to pull off without being spaced out.
