New coach Dan Quinn’s work with the Commanders is well underway with much more still to do

ASHBURN, VA — Dan Quinn and wife Stacey arrived in the Washington region on Sunday night and were greeted on the tarmac by general manager Adam Peters and his wife Jennifer.

Peters hugged and congratulated his new coach. “I’m so pumped,” Quinn responded.

Before even getting on the ground, the Commanders’ new football decision makers were already well underway with the start of a lot of work to do. They hired Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator and Joe Whitt Jr. as defensive coordinator, with those moves announced by the team Monday after reaching agreements with them over the weekend.

“We’re just getting started,” Quinn remarked at his introductory press conference. ”This wave will keep riding for a long time, but we’re only catching it right now.”

Josh Harris, controlling owner, turned to Quinn and said, ”You’ve gotten down to business swiftly. Harris also hinted that Quinn has ”some more tricks up his sleeve” with his coaching staff.

Quinn revealed Monday that Eric Bieniemy will not return to Washington after one season as offensive coordinator. Bienemy’s future was uncertain as players criticized his tactics, and he interviewed for but did not receive the Commanders’ head coaching position.

”We’re not going to work together here, but in this coaching fraternity, I wanted him to know, man, I truly admire what he’s done,” Quinn said of Bieniemy, who left the Chiefs to work under defensive-minded coach Ron Rivera in the hopes of landing a head coaching job elsewhere in the NFL. ”I wish E.B. nothing but the best, and he will do an excellent job. I was ecstatic that he took his shot this year and went for it, so I have a lot of respect for him.
