DENVER — The cause of offensive lineman Thomas Herrion’s death is unknown until toxicology testing are completed, which typically takes three to six weeks, according to a coroner.

Herrion had never tested positive for a banned substance since joining the NFL two years ago, according to individuals acquainted with his league’s drug policy.

The player had the day off on Sunday, but practice is anticipated to resume Monday. A team memorial ceremony will be held on Tuesday.

“Being on the field is therapeutic for both coaches and players, but not right now,” said Nolan, who has not decided how to adjust the 49ers’ preparations for Friday’s home game.
