The countdown to the San Francisco 49ers’ Week 1 game has begun, and head coach Kyle Shanahan named the team’s season-long captains on Wednesday. All six 49ers captains were chosen by their teammates and have demonstrated veteran-level leadership talents during their tenure with the franchise.

Two San Francisco captains, All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams and Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle, will wear a gold “C” to signify five or more years of team captaincy. Williams, who has played for two different teams in his 14-year NFL career, has served as captain for 11 of those seasons. Meanwhile, Kittle, a 49ers veteran, has been named captain for six of his seven seasons in the league.
