Ex Seahawks Coach Hired By 49ers

The Seattle Seahawks will see a lot more of Nick Sorensen, their former assistant coach, next season. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the division rival San Francisco 49ers have signed Sorensen as their next defensive coordinator. Sorensen, 45, rose fast through the ranks with the 49ers, beginning as a defensive assistant in 2022, progressing to defensive pass game specialist last season, and now defensive coordinator.

Sorensen is also the 49ers’ third defensive coordinator in three seasons. He succeeds Steve Wilks, who was sacked after the 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58. DeMeco Ryans, the Houston Texans’ current head coach, came before Wilks.
After a 10-year career as a backup and special teams player, Sorensen began his next chapter in the NFL as the Seahawks’ assistant special teams coach in 2013. He won many trophies throughout his eight-year tenure in Seattle, but his most notable role was as the team’s defensive backs coach from 2017 to 2020. In addition, Sorensen served one year as Urban Meyer’s special teams coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.Pete Carroll, the former Seattle coach, may be out of coaching for the time being, but members of his staff guarantee that his impact is still felt throughout the league.
