NEW ORLEANS — The Memphis baseball team saw a 5-0 lead erode down the stretch, but it eventually escaped Uptown with a 7-5, 10-inning victory over Tulane on Sunday afternoon at Greer Field in Turchin Stadium.

The Tigers won the series, improving their overall record to 21-27 and 8-13 in the American Athletic Conference. The Green Wave fell to 26-22 and 10-11 in the league.

In the top of the tenth, Memphis right fielder Pierre Seals smashed a two-run homer, his tenth of the season, to give the team the lead. Second baseman Daunte Stuart (3-for-5, 2 runs scored) drove in the team’s fifth run with a solo shot in the fifth.

Tulane received solo home runs from left fielder Jackson Linn (fifth inning) and catcher Colin Tuft (eighth inning), both of whom recorded their seventh round-tripper of 2024. In the third inning, second baseman Connor Rasmussen equaled center fielder Teo Banks for the club lead by hitting his 12th double of the season. Gavin Schulz, a right fielder, scored twice.

The Seals’ heroics made reliever Brayden Sanders (2-3) a winner, as he allowed only one walk and struck out in the ninth and tenth innings.

The Seals’ homer came off Tulane reliever Jacob Moore, who dropped to 3-3 on the season.

The Tuft home run cut the margin to one (5-4), and Tulane drew the game in the eighth when Schulz scored on a ground ball double play hit by designated hitter Michael Lombardi. Tuft subsequently popped out to shortstop, and the game continued to the tenth.

Banks has now reached base in 18 straight games.

Tulane will next face UNO on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
