Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills to star in Week 2 Thursday Night Football.

As Wednesday’s schedule release quickly approaches, the NFL has dropped six (and counting) of the most exciting early-season matchups. Tuesday, the league revealed that the AFC East will be highlighted in Amazon Prime’s first Thursday Night Football matchup. The game will be between the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, who have fought for the division title in recent years.

The matchup, set for 8:20 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 12, is an opportunity for the Dolphins to get their season off on the right foot, as the Bills have been their kryptonite in recent years. In 2023, Miami went 0-2 against Buffalo. The second of the two losses was a crucial one, forcing the Dolphins to travel to freezing temperatures in Kansas City where their season ultimately came to an end.

Both teams have undergone major changes this offseason. The Bills lost significant pieces on offense, including four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs. The Dolphins took a hit in free agency, parting ways with key defensive playmakers.

The AFC East rivals come off very opposite seasons. While the Dolphins’ hot start fizzled out, the Bills turned 5-5 into a playoff run. Mike McDaniel and Co. are coming off back-to-back disappointing playoff performances.
This year, the Dolphins and AFC East will face the AFC South and NFC West along with a 17th game against a similar-seeded NFC North opponent. For the Dolphins, that means a game against the Green Bay Packers.
The rest of the schedule will be revealed at 8:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 15 on ESPN.
