Newcastle ‘reluctantly willing to sell’ 19-year-old winger if valuation is met – Expected to want £40m

Newcastle United are considering cashing in on interest for one of their young up-and-coming stars to offset Profit and Sustainability fears.

This is according to The Telegraph who now believe that Newcastle could be tempted, albeit reluctantly, to sell Yankuba Minteh this summer to make a dent in the PSR restrictions that look set to once again ruin the transfer market.

Minteh was Newcastle’s first signing last summer coming in from OB Odense in Denmark for £6.5million, signing his contract in Holland as he signed his Feyenoord loan deal immediately after.

The Gambian winger spent the entire season at Feyenoord under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot, and it will come as no surprise that it’s alleged that Liverpool would be most likely to pounce.

A £35m profit is not to be sniffed at with PSR being what it is

While MInteh has yet to kick a ball for Newcastle, his impressive form at Feyenoord has garnered a lot of attention which is why the club are now considering what the Telegraph call ‘a host of offers’ for his services.

It’s believed that Newcastle wouldn’t accept anything less than £40million, which would represent a hefty profit for the club, hence the temptation to do a deal before actually seeing what the lad can do in the black and white.

As much as we’re excited to see Minteh in action for Newcastle to see what he can do, we’re also not crazy enough to suggest that a near £35million profit for a player we’ve had for a year wouldn’t represent good business, especially with PSR nipping at our heels.

We could forever be wondering “what if?” should we sell Minteh this summer

Our one big caveat to that is that if he goes to somewhere like Liverpool and becomes absolutely mint, we’d forever be looking on thinking “what if?”.

But these are the breaks and the risks you take in the transfer market, and to be honest, just because a player is good for one side doesn’t mean they’ll be good at yours.

Look at Joselu: A steaming pile of festering garbage for us, now a Champions League-winning Real Madrid striker heading to the Euros with Spain.
