Tottenham Hotspur set to make offer for Riccardo Calafiori

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to make an offer to sign Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori, according to a report from Tutto Juve.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has already stressed the importance of signing one centre-back in the summer, and it looks like the north London club have earmarked the 22-year-old as a potential option.

The online Italian media outlet reported on 18 June that Spurs have made contact to sign the Bologna defender, and they will come up with an offer shortly.

Serie A giants Juventus are equally keen to get him on board, and they have an agreement with the defender already. Thus, it seems Tottenham are looking to hijack the deal to sign the Italy international, and contact was made in the last few hours.

More players to join from Serie A?

Spurs signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa permanently in the January transfer window, and Postecoglou is looking to capitalise on the Italian market once again.

The only problem is that the defender prefers to stay in Italy, which gives Juventus an upper hand in the race. Tottenham can come up with a better offer that is too hard for Bologna to refuse and present a lucrative wage package to the defender to turn his head around.

Calafiori is currently with the Italy national team for the Euro 2024 Championships and has put in an impressive performance already for the Azzurri against Albania.

While the report does not mention any transfer fee, it can be safely assumed that Bologna will not be willing to let him go on the cheap, especially when there is a clear chance of a bidding war. He joined from Basel last season and made 33 appearances in all competitions for Bologna.

Tottenham are ready to outbid Juventus in the race for Calafiori, although the defender’s price could skyrocket if he continues to enjoy an impressive Euro 2024 tournament.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are closely following highly-rated Championship player.
