What Danny Simpson has learned about Enzo Maresca from Leicester City players
The defender Danny Simpson, who won the Premier League championship with Leicester City in 2016, continues to communicate with a few of his former colleagues.
Danny Simpson may not be in the Leicester City locker room anymore, but from what he’s heard from some of his old Seagrave teammates, the Foxes team is clearly enjoying life under Enzo Maresca. After a stellar career that included playing in the Champions League and winning the Premier League, Simpson left the King Power Stadium in 2019.
The former right-back was devastated by the demise of his former club in the spring of last year as they too, after a nine-year stay in the top flight, returned to the second tier. The right-back came through the ranks at Manchester United and ended his career in 2022 after stints in the Championship with Bristol City and Huddersfield Town.
With a third of the season remaining, the Foxes sit 12 points ahead of Leeds United in third place, and things on the field couldn’t be going much better under Maresca. With a point average of nearly 2.5 per game, they should easily surpass Reading’s 2006 total of 106 points and cross the 100 point threshold by the conclusion of the season.
Simpson still maintains contact with the players he played with at Leicester, including Jamie Vardy, Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi, and Kelechi Iheanacho. Under the guidance of Italian Maresca, the Leicester camp is an enjoyable location to train and play football, based on all the noises emanating from within.
