Three Former Texans To Play In Super Bowl LVIII

Las Vegas — While the Houston Texans will not play in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday at Alligent Stadium, fans will recognize a few individuals from their time at NRG Stadium. Safety Justin Reid (Kansas City Chiefs), safety Tashaun Gipson, and receiver Chris Conley (San Francisco 49ers) will compete for the Lombardi Trophy beginning at 5:30 p.m. Reid was a steal for the Texans in the third round of the 2018 draft, coming out of Stanford. He started four seasons, helping Houston reach the playoffs in 2018 and 2019. Related stuff.
The Texans wanted to keep Reid after the 2021 season, but after two consecutive losing seasons, he left for Kansas City, signing a three-year, $31.5 million contract with the Chiefs as a free agency in 2022. Reid played a key role in Kansas City’s second championship under Andy Reid last season, earning seven tackles and one pass breakup. A year later, he’s been just as consistent, with 77 tackles, three sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble. Gipson inked a three-year, $22.5 million contract with the Texans in 2019 after spending two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He failed to live up to the billing as a mediocre player and was finally discharged.
He recovered with the Chicago Bears before returning to Pro Bowl form in the Bay. In 16 games, he recorded 60 tackles and one interception. Perhaps the most significant play of his career came in the NFC Championship, when Gibson forced a fumble to help the 49ers defeat the Detroit Lions. Conley signed as a free agent in 2021, following six seasons with Kansas City and Jacksonville. Chiefs and two with the Jaguars. He caught 22 catches for 323 yards and two touchdowns this season before being fired after two games in 2022.
