Brock Purdy, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, is just four quarters away from winning the Super Bowl. Given that he was selected last in the 2022 NFL Draft less than two years ago.
Purdy may not be considered a “household name” at this point, but a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on February 11th could change that.
Brock Purdy was unlucky not to have played in this game last year. Prior to last season’s NFC Championship Game, he had never lost as a starter. However, Purdy damaged his UCL early in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. After backup Josh Johnson was injured, Purdy was forced to play quarterback for the majority of the game, unable to throw the ball more than a few yards. Who knows if the 49ers would have won that game, but they had a greater chance than they had without a viable quarterback.
This year, the Iowa State alum was the betting favorite for MVP until a terrible four-interception performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16. Nonetheless, he had a tremendous season passing the ball to the 49ers’ incredible weapons. Brock Purdy completed 69% of his passes for over 4200 yards and 31 touchdowns, with 11 interceptions. He also topped the league in yards per attempt by more than a yard (9.3).
Purdy is getting a financial boost as he prepares for the greatest game of his life in front of over 100 million Americans and millions more around the world, having secured an endorsement contract with automaker Toyota.
You may scoff at the bank account comment, but Purdy is significantly underpaid. Regardless of where you stand on the “is Brock Purdy good” discussion, he only makes $870,000 this year. That’s over $40 million less than his Super Bowl opponent, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Brock Purdy will undoubtedly benefit from the money Toyota pays him.
